Chapter 4
Faye couldn’t stay here any longer. She turned to leave, but suddenly heard the sound of Howell’s phone ringing from the hospital room.
“Alia?” His voice immediately softened. “What’s the matter?”
On the other end of the line, Alianna’s voice came through, choking with sobs. Faye couldn’t hear what Alianna said, but Howell’s expression suddenly changed.
He quickly threw off the blanket and pulled the IV needle from the back. of his hand, fresh blood immediately seeping out. But it seemed that he couldn’t feel the pain as he grabbed his coat and rushed out.
“Howell!” Stanley grabbed him, his voice filled with anger. “What are you doing? You haven’t recovered! The doctor said you can’t leave the hospital!”
Howell shook off his hand, his tone cold. “Alia is afraid of the thunder. I have to go comfort her.”
Stanley was furious, his face turning pale. “You’re willing to give up your life for her? What about Faye? She just donated blood to you. Did you even think to ask her how she’s doing?”
Howell paused for a moment but didn’t turn around.
He didn’t even grab his coat before he pushed open the door and left, not even noticing Faye standing outside.
Faye watched as he hurried away. She remained silent for a long time before finally letting out a faint laugh.
She should have gotten used to it by now.
Every time Alianna cried, Howell panicked.
As for Faye, even if she bled to death, he wouldn’t spare her a glance.
Two days later. Howell returned.
He pushed open the door when Faye was sitting on the sofa, sorting through flight tickets and documents.
“Faye.” He walked up to her, his tone unusually gentle. “I heard you donated blood for me? Why are you so foolish?”
Faye calmly put away the documents, not even raising her head. “It’s fine as long as you’re okay.”
Howell seemed unaware of her coldness and sat down next to her, taking
her hand.
“Last time, Alianna interrupted my proposal. This time, I’ve arranged a banquet to make it up to you.”
Faye finally looked up at him and noticed how pale he looked. He had lost a lot of blood and refused to stay in the hospital.
“Forget it.” She whispered, “What if Alianna faints again?”
Howell furrowed his brows, his tone firm. “That won’t happen. I didn’t invite her.”
Faye smiled.
He didn’t understand her sarcasm.
But she didn’t say anything more. She just nodded.
*本車
Howell drove to the banquet while Faye sat in the passenger seat,
watching the scenery outside the window.
Suddenly, Howell’s phone rang.
He had just answered the call when Alianna’s heart–wrenching cries came through.
“Howell! I’ve been kidnapped! They said they’re going to kill me!”
Howell’s face turned pale instantly. He slammed on the brakes and immediately opened a tracking app. A flashing red dot appeared on the
screen.
“Hold on!”
He growled. slamming the steering wheel, and the car swerved and turned, speeding towards the outskirts.
The force of the sharp turn threw Faye against the car door. Her forehead hit the glass hard, and blood immediately dripped down from her brow bone.
But Howell didn’t notice, his mind entirely focused on Alianna.
The car sped recklessly on the highway before finally stopping on an abandoned bridge.
It was raining heavily, and Faye couldn’t make out the figures ahead. She could only vaguely see Alianna being held by a man with a knife pressed. to her neck. They were standing on the edge of the bridge.
“Howell! You finally came!”
The man screamed hysterically.
“You ruined my company and forced my wife to jump off a building! Now, I’ll make you lose the person you love most!”
Howell got out of the car, the rain soaking his suit, but the cold didn’t seem to bother him as he walked step by step towards them.
“You’re mistaken.” His voice was cold. “The person I love most is not
her.”
The man froze for a moment, the knife slightly moving away from Alianna’s neck. “What?”
Howell’s tone was frigid. “Didn’t you investigate? The woman you’re holding is my ex–girlfriend. When I was disabled, she abandoned me. I hated her for it.”
Howell sneered. “The person I love now is the one who has been by my side these years.”
After saying this, he turned to look at Faye in the car, his gaze so affectionate that it could drown her.
Faye was dumbfounded.
This was the first time Howell had looked at her with such eyes.
But of all time, it was at such a moment!
