Chapter 6
Parents shoved the director and Chief
Thompson.
“You were playing God with our kids‘ lives! We
trusted you!”
“The daughter been having an affair with a
married man”
Chief Thompson stood in front of the director.
“I was in charge. I decide who’s in danger!”
Was he protecting Jennifer now?
The parents were grabbing them. My son just

stared. A dad risked his life twice for another
woman.
The Fire Marshall walked over. “Chief
Thompson, I’m disappointed. You’re supposed
to put safety over everything else. This is a screwup!”
The firemen stepped forward. One of them was Mike, Chief Thompson’s right–hand man.
“Mike, it’s your job to make the hard decisions. Did you forget years of training? Did you forget that you decide on those who need the most help?”
Mike wiped his eyes. “I should’ve taken people and went. I just didn’t know the Chief would abandon his family for another woman.”
Chief Thompson wouldn’t even save his son.
The people who had been rescued got angry!

“You left your kid! Are you a man”
“You shut up! You just mess things up!” Chief
Thompson snapped. “Mrs. Thompson, you need
to have more discipline!”
Tommy was hugging me tight. “Mom, it’s okay, I
don’t want him.”
The people were in shock.
One of them saw that Chief Thompson had
comforted Jennifer. Another started yelling. The
director then yelled back and they were all in
shock.
“The firefighters are supposed to be the heroes.
It’s not the women”
The group shouted out what had happened.
The director tried to clear things up! The
parents were getting more mad because of the

Director “I wasn’t trying to get people killed,
just help!”
She tried to say this to the community that she
helped and got destroyed!
