Right after the plane landed in Los Angeles, I received a call from Matthew Ford.
Matthew was the son of my dad’s business partner. We grew up together and were close when we were little.
Later on, his family business went bankrupt. His dad topped himself, and his mom passed away due toa serious illness.
Overnight, he went from a trust fund kid to a broke young
man.
My dad couldn’t bear to see Matthew suffer, so he had been supporting Matthew, including paying for Matthew’s tuition.
Not long after Matthew graduated, he passed the interview and started to work for my dad.
He started from the bottom and gradually became my dad’s right–handman.
“Grace, I’m waiting for you at the airport exit.” Matthew’s voice was as deep and mellow as ever.
I walked out while pulling my suitcase and spotted him in the crowd at once.
He was tall and slender, in the simple white shirt and black trousers. His hair was neat and clean, though there was a hint of fatigue deep down his eyes.
“It’s been a while, Matthew,” I said, sounding a bit aggrieved.

1288 Vouchers
As I looked at him, memories from my previous life came flooding back to me.
Seven years ago, after I married Antonio, I went to New York with him. When I topped myself in my previous life, Matthew was abroad, expanding the company’s business per my dad’s instruction.
I didn’t get to see him again till the day I died.
At the sight of me, he stepped forward, took my suitcase, and said softly, “You must be tired from the trip, right? How long are you planning to stay this time?”
Looking up, I smiled at him, “I’m not leaving again.”
He was slightly stunned. Soon, he smiled again, “Mr. Parrish and Mrs. Parrish are thrilled knowing you’re coming back.”
In my previous life, everyone knew I refused to divorce Antonio.
My mom flew overnight from Los Angeles to New York, worrying about me.
She persuaded me to put Antonio as well as everything related to him behind and come back with her.
“Grace, come back. You’ve never been Antonio’s priority.
“Ever since you were a little girl, your dad and I have been doting on you. You’ve always been the apple of our eye. Antonio has no right to upset you.
“You’ve been suffering and enduring since the day you married him, but he’s too blind to see how great you are.

“Don’t be so stubborn. Come back with me and start over,
OK?” she said.
But I shook my head.
I loved Antonio and refused to let go.
I didn’t believe it was the only way for him to fix this.
In my opinion, he’d feel bad and have a change of mind as long as I kept making a scene.
With such a thought, I locked myself in the room and refused to open it no matter what my mom said.
I even deliberately pissed her off by saying she and my dad had colluded with Antonio to force me to divorce him and go back to Los Angeles.
My mom was so furious that even her face turned pale. After a long time of silence, she turned around slowly and left, stumbling.
Soon, my dad called me and commanded me sternly, asking me to go to the hospital.
He said my mom had a car wreck on her way to the airport.
Overnight, he became so haggard that he seemed to have aged several decades.
Later, my mom came around. She said nothing, not persuading me again.
When Dad took her back to Los Angeles, he glanced at me
and said flatly, “Last chance. Are you going to come back th
us?”

I knew I let them down.
But I was so stubborn that I wouldn’t give up till Antonio made his final decision.

“Is Dad… OK?” I asked Matthew.
He nodded. “He’s doing well, and so does the company. You’ve got nothing to worry about.!”
I smiled and looked at him gratefully, “Thanks, Matthew.”
Deep down, I continued silently, “Thanks for taking care of him for me over the years.
“Thanks for guarding my family for me.”
