I went to Jason’s house.
He was lying in bed, much thinner than just a
few days ago.
His eyes were dark as he looked at me. “If I
hadn’t gotten sick, you wouldn’t even have
come to see me on New Year’s Eve, would
you?”
“Of course not.”
Jason’s eyes brightened.
I handed him a glass of water. “You’re like
family to me, Mr. Jason. I would have come to
family to me, Mr. Jason. I would have come to
visit you for the New Year regardless.”
His eyes dimmed again. “Sweetie, I’ve been
thinking about what you said about liking
me…”
I interrupted him. “Like you said, I was young
and didn’t know any better. I’m glad you
didn’t take it seriously.”
“What if I said I regretted it?”
“People tend to have strange thoughts when
they’re sick. You’ll feel better when you
recover.”
After Jason rejected me, I’d still held onto a
sliver of hope that he might change his mind.

But spending time with Alex made me realize
something.
Jason had always been good to me, but like
one would care for a pet.
Because I was a pet, my feelings didn’t
matter.
When he decided to marry Melanie, he knew
it would hurt me, but he did it anyway.
A pet, no matter how sad, wouldn’t leave its
owner, right?
But I was a person.
Jason didn’t press the issue. He knew that if
he continued, we’d lose even the little
affection that remained
く
Neither of us spoke.
Silence had never been awkward before, but
now it was unbearable.
After a while, I told Jason to rest and recover.
“Happy New Year, Mr. Jason. I promised Alex
I’d celebrate with him, so I’ll be going now.”
Jason looked at me, as if he had a thousand
words to say, but finally, he just said, “Okay,
sweetie. Happy New Year to you too.”
I dated Alex for three years. I don’t know
exactly when I fell for him.
One day, I realized I’d stopped thinking about
Jason. My heart and mind were full of Alex.
<
When he kissed me, I didn’t resist. My heart
just raced.
I felt a twinge of jealousy when I saw him with
other women.
He became my muse. When designing suits, I
always imagined him wearing them.
I made plans for the future, and he was in
every single one of them.
So when Alex knelt down and proposed, I
didn’t hesitate to extend my hand and say, “I
do!”
I invited Jason to our wedding.
He said he couldn’t make it because of work
and sent assets worth ten million dollars as a

wedding gift.
It snowed on our wedding day.
As Alex carried me in his arms, I saw a tall
figure standing in the distance, his black coat
and hair covered in snow.
He looked a lot like Jason.
When I looked again, he was gone.
I quickly forgot about it as Alex placed me in.
his sports car, beaming.
“Buckle up, wifey. Let’s go on our
honeymoon!”
