Chapter 2
The last time, Antonio saved me first, so the baby was safe.
After Mia was born, Antonio only gave us money and didn’t do anything for her.
Mia once asked me with tears why Antonio had never given her gifts when other kids could get gifts from their dads.
I couldn’t figure it out either until I overheard him say to Mia, “Don’t call me Dad. I won’t take you as my daughter, but I’ll make it up to you.
Seeing Mia crying and looking puzzled, he took out the feathers he had kept for years.
“The day when you were born, everyone was busy taking your mom to the hospital, so Casey went missing. Kiana must hate me. I failed to protect Casey for her.
“If I had a second chance, I’d keep her and Casey safe, even at the expense of my daughter.”
The memory reduced me to tears.
I’d braced myself for the possibility of losing the baby when I decided to come back, so I took it calmly.
Right after I got a divorce agreement from a friend, Antonio came with a pack of toys.
“They’re cute. I bought them for the baby on the way here,” he said.
Then, be put the toys in a line beside me, a smile spreading across his face.

“Have you found Casey?”
Antonio paused before nodding.

“Yes. I hope you don’t tell my parents about what happened today. I don’t want them to misunderstand Kiana. If you can hide it for me, I’ll do
anything for you.”
It turned out that he had bought the toys for Kiana, not me.
I turned to the toys and saw the words “for parrots” on the tag.
I had a lump in my throat.
Did he buy them when shopping with Kiana for Casey?
“Anything?” I held back my tears and pretended to be happy.
He nodded, so I took out the divorce agreement and covered the contents except for the signature line.
“Then sign a promise agreement.”
He frowned in confusion. “What promise?”
“Promise that you’ll never love anyone else.”
I used to do childish things, so he believed me and signed it.
For some reason, I felt a little relieved.
In my previous life, Antonio saved me from the darkness. This time, I’d free him.
Antonio and I met each other when we were kids. My family wasn’t poor. but I became unwanted after my parents divorced and my dad got custody
of me.
The whole class was required to order uniforms, and I was the only one wearing a copycat that my stepmom had bought.
When other kids were laughing at me. Antonio tore his uniform and stood beside me, helping me ease the humiliation.
“Is it so funny that she accidentally bought a copycat? Not everyone pays. attention to this kind of thing. Her uniform is the same as mine.”
Then, my stepmom got pregnant, so my dad wanted to get rid of me and locked me in the house that had caught fire. When I was dying, Antonio ran in and risked his life to save me.
When my dad went to jail, and my step–mom took away all the money, Antonio sponsored me and kept me from dropping out of school.
