Chapter 3
Darell even gave Kara a European castle to celebrate her successful delivery.
On the contrary, after I gave birth, he simply said to me, “Thanks, Violet. Get some rest. I’m going to have a meeting.”
The difference between being loved and not being loved was so obvious.
Completely disheartened, I set down his phone and booked myself a flight to go abroad in three days.
Then I went back to lie on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Tortured by great heartache, I didn’t sleep a wink that night.
The next day, Darell had his assistant buy me nutritious food as always.
In the past, I was always so touched by his thoughtfulness; after all, he cared about my well–being even though he wasn’t around.
But now, as I looked at the food, the photos of him cooking for Kara in the kitchen wearing an apron emerged in my mind, and then I realized this was just his way of brushing me off.
Compared to love, money was nothing.
Seeing that I hadn’t taken a bite, Darell looked at me with distress in his eyes. “Why aren’t you eating, Violet? Is the food not to your liking?”
I said, “I miss our baby is all.”

He smiled, “I see. In fact, I miss Jimmy, too. Being a father can really change a person. Now I finally know what it feels like to miss my baby. I don’t want to leave him for just a second. Jimmy is the cutest baby in the world.
“Mom is thrilled about having a grandson, and she’s celebrating at home. We’ll go and pick up Jimmy later.”
I said nothing. After all, I had made up my mind to leave, so I didn’t give a toss about what he wanted to do.
We went back to the Bourn’s mansion. Right after I walked in, I saw Darell’s mom, Regina Hicks, tease Jimmy, who was in Kara’s arms.
Kara was dressed in a high–end luxury limited–edition outfit, looking radiant, not at all like a woman who had just given birth.
While teasing Jimmy, Regina fed Kara caviar.
She was so nice to Kara.
At the sight of me, Kara said to Regina sarcastically, “Regina, maybe you shouldn’t be so nice to me, or the others might think I’m your daughter–in- law, and Violet will get jealous. She looks so weak; she can have the caviar.”
Following Kara’s line of sight, Regina looked over and saw the blood- stained clothes I was wearing. I hadn’t changed my clothes after the incident that day. She looked at me with disgust and said, “Are you short of money? Why are you dressing like this? You want to embarrass us? Look at Kara and then you. Both of you have just given birth, and she looks way better than you. Stop acting like giving birth is a big deal.
“If you had known better, you should have stayed at home when you were pregnant. Be glad that you survived the fall. Don’t act pitiful anymore,

OK? I’m so fed up with it. I’m so glad Jimmy is fine, or I’d have Darell divorce you right away.
“You took the pills while knowing exactly you had to breastfeed Jimmy. How could you do this? Luckily, Kara is here to breastfeed Jimmy, or he would have been starved to death. I’ll make it official now that from now on, Kara will be my goddaughter.”
I knew Regina had always looked down upon me. She thought I wasn’t good enough for Darell, and I was nothing compared to Kara. In her eyes, Kara, Darell’s childhood sweetheart, was so pretty and sweet.
Then Kara married abroad, and I got pregnant. For the sake of the baby, Regina reluctantly acknowledged that I was her daughter–in–law.
But whenever she saw me, she’d always ridicule me.
Back then, Darell always defended me. Besides, it was he who pulled me to the mall that day, saying he wanted to get a gift for our baby on the
way.
But now, his gaze was fixated on Kara, the deep affection in his eyes. unmistakable.
Holding Jimmy, Kara walked up to Darell and linked arms with him. playfully. “Did you hear that, Darell? Regina wants me to be her goddaughter. That makes you my brother. Have you prepared a gift for me?”
Helpless, Darell pinched her cheek gently. “Don’t you dare call me your brother?”
Though he said this, he had someone bring her ninety–two high–end luxurious coats, and he even had already matched them with jewelry.
