Chapter 7
Besides the divorce agreement, there was a USB drive. Seeing this, Darell asked his assistant to play the contents right away.
But his assistant left the office in a hurry and didn’t have his laptop with him. The only computer here was the one linked to the big screen, but there were so many guests present.
Noticing the commotion, Kara walked over with Jimmy in her arms.
“What’s going on, Darell? Jimmy has been so restless. I bet he wants you to hug him. Come on.”
Ignoring her, Darell yelled at his assistant, “What are you waiting for? Play it!”
Startled, Jimmy burst into tears at once. While coaxing him, Kara shot Darell a glance, blaming him in silence.
Yet, Darell didn’t care about them at all at this moment. He stared at the big screen intently.
It was several edited video clips.
It included his conversation with the doctor in the morgue, the real reason why Violet had been pushed down the stairs, and even him with Kara when they were doing it at the Bourn’s mansion.
Darell’s face turned ghastly pale, and he trembled violently.
Violet knew everything.
He thought since she had just given birth and broken her leg, she’d be too weak to get out of bed.
But he wasn’t a mom, and he didn’t know how worried and eager she was when she woke up and didn’t see her baby.
All this time, he thought he had done a great job lying to her, he even put on a show in front of her again and again.
When she begged him, saying she didn’t want to take the pills, he half- forced her to take them while ignoring the pleading in her eyes. He took her chance of being a mom again forever.
He dreaded to think how she had been suffering these past few days.
His mind buzzed, and he felt that his world was turned upside down. Right now, only Violet and the baby he had killed occupied his mind.
The guests were shocked and discussed with each other.
“Fuck me! Is this really happening? It’s Kara’s baby? Mr. Bourn killed Mrs. Bourn’s baby? He’s a criminal! How could he bear to do that to his own baby? What a monster.”
“They always say Mr. Bourn loves and dotes on Mrs. Bourn so much. But he had her push down the stairs and murdered their baby just to pave the way for his loyer’s little bastard. What a douchebag. I can’t even imagine how hard it is for Violet to take.”
“I knew it. Kara is such a slut. She’s married, yet she spends every day at the Bourn’s mansion. I weep for her husband.”
Their voices were loud, and Kara’s face gradually turned pale. She tugged at Darell’s sleeve, saying helplessly, “Darell, why are they all looking at me like that? What should I do? Say something.”
Chapter 7
Yet, it was as if Darell hadn’t heard her at all. He pulled his hand away. and turned to leave.
But Regina soon blocked his way. “Darell, at this point, you’re going to that good–for–nothing?
“You might as well divorce her. I hated her ever since the beginning. She’s such a shabby bumpkin, and she’s a bad influence on Jimmy.”
With that, she looked around and said in a deep voice, “Everyone, there’s been a misunderstanding. I’m sure you know that videos and audio can be fabricated. Darell has long divorced Violet. But she has been pestering him, and now, she even resorts to such lousy means, trying to ruin his reputation.
“It’s true that Jimmy is Kara’s son. It’s because Kara is my current daughter–in–law. I wanted her to get enough rest when she was pregnant, but now. since she’s given birth, I invite all of you to her upcoming wedding with Darell.”
Her tone was half–threatening, coupled with the Bourn family’s status, everyone knew what was going on
No one wanted to mess with the Bourn family, and since they were onlookers anyway, they stopped talking and all nodded.
However, Darell was displeased. Frowning, he said, “Mom, what are you talking about? What divorce? What current daughter–in–law? Kara is married, and she has kids. Violet is your daughter–in–law.”
Regina wasn’t surprised when she heard him say this at all. With a kind smile, she took Kara’s hand and stuffed it into Darell’s palm.
“Silly, Kara has already had a divorce. She did it for you. You’ve always had feelings for her, right? Now you can finally be together.
Chapter 7
“What’s so good about Violet? She can’t get pregnant anymore. Given how many assets we have, one kid won’t be enough. Anyway, Kara gave birth to Jimmy. Marry her, OK? I want to have more grandkids as soon as possible.”
Darell looked at Kara with confusion; and the latter said shyly, “Darell, we shouldn’t go against our elders, right?
“You and I belong to each other. I’m sorry for leaving you and going abroad back then, but I never forgot you. I always remember how good you were to me. Violet isn’t good enough for you at all.”
