Chapter 9
“What’s so good about Violet? I’m a woman, too, and I know her. She’s just playing hard to get. She wants to take you away from me. Don’t fall for it, Darell. I’m the one you care about the most. Forget about that vile woman. Together with Jimmy, we’ll live as a happy family of three, OK?”
Saying this, Kara stood on her tiptoes, wanting to kiss Darell.
He always compromised when she played pitiful and sought his embrace. After all, men were all creatures driven by lust.
She thought he’d react the same this time.
Yet, in the next second, he gripped her by the neck and said, his eyes utterly sinister, “You love me? If you loved me, you wouldn’t have been with that tycoon abroad the second you knew my family was facing a crisis. Remember? You dumped me and got married abroad without hesitation.
“You came back a year earlier because you had found that he was a liar and a pervert (who enjoyed torturing women. He even faked your marriage certificate. My family happened to shake off the crisis and become even stronger than before, so you came back to me, drugged me, and became pregnant with my baby. You want to control me and my family, right?
“You know exactly that you’re just a distant relative of the Motley family. Without me, you would never enjoy the carefree life you’ve always wanted. ”
Kara was stunned that Darell would find out everything.
Shaking her head, she said, “Darell, you got me wrong. You know me,
right? I’ve always been innocent and kind. I’m not a scheming woman.‘
”
Darell tightened his grip on her neck. “You? Innocent and kind? Kara, do you think I’m stupid?
“You think I don’t know that you picked on Violet first that day? You hurt. yourself and let her take the blame. What’s more unforgivable is that you actually showed her the video about her baby. Because of that, she finally set her heart on leaving me. You’re the vicious one! I’m going to make you pay.”
Soon, Kara knew what he meant.
Because she saw her ex–husband who had tortured her extremely. He walked out of the bedroom and grinned at her lewdly. “Baby, it’s been a while. I miss your screams so much.”
Darell threw Kara to the floor. Crying, she hugged his calf, begging, “Darell, don’t do this to me. Please! I finally managed to get out of that hellhole. Don’t send me back.”
Darell looked down at her coldly and said harshly, “I made Violet suffer because of you. After losing her, I’m suffering every day now.
“So, why shouldn’t you suffer?”
Kara was dragged away by her ex, and she could never escape.
As punishment for her escape, he sawed off her legs and fed them to the wild dogs.
Half a month later, Darell’s assistant finally brought him good news. “Mr. Bourn, we’ve found Mrs. Bourn!”
By then, I was working as a child caregiver at a welfare institute in a rural town in Canada.
Chapter
Since the institute was extremely short–handed, the director didn’t even ask me for my ID card.
I asked her, “Aren’t you worried I’m up to something?”
Smiling kindly, she shook her head and looked at me. She said, “I see sadness in your eyes, the kind belonging to a mother who has lost her kid. I hardly think anyone who feels sad for kids would be up to something.
“We’ve got a lot of kids here, and they’re so sweet. I hope they can cure you.”
The conditions here were great; I got paid, and food and accommodation were provided.
My favorite part of the job was preparing meals for the kids every day.
I had learned to cook for my baby, but he never had a chance to see if I was a great cook.
As I watched those kids smile after eating the food I made, I felt cured indeed.
