Chapter 3 Where Is Savannah?
Kaleb’s stepmom. Tracy Simon, had a daughter with Victor, but she passed away young, leaving Tracy with lasting regret. Later, she adopted
Alena
Three years after Kaleb’s mom, Fiona, passed away, Victor married Tracy.
Tracy never liked me much because of Alena.
When Alena spotted Tracy, she called out sweetly, “Dad, Mom.”
Victor’s anger flared as he turned to Kaleb. “You’ve embarrassed the family. How dare you show up here?”
Yesterday, just as Kaleb and I were about to exchange rings, Alena called, saying her chest hurt. Kaleb dropped everything and ran to her, leaving me humiliated and the talk of the city.
So when Victor blamed him, Alena stepped up to defend him. “Dad, this is all my fault. My chest hurt so bad that I thought something was seriously wrong. That’s why I called Kaleb. Ididn’t mean to ruin the wedding. Please don’t be mad at him,” she begged on her knees.
Tracy took Alena into her arms. “Victor, Savannah pushed her into the river, that’s why she ended up with these heart issues. And the Brook family didn’t even make a big deal about yesterday, so why are you?” She turned to Alena and softened her tone. “Ally, get up. The floor’s cold.”
Moments like this had become all too familiar over the years. Whenever Alena and I clashed, Victor started out strict but always ended up letting
her off the hook.

Alena always got her way, leaving me to take the punishment.
Kaleb scanned the room. his eyes searching. “Dad, where is Savannah?”
“I didn’t know you still cared about her. You left her at the altar and made her handle all the humiliation on her own. She stayed to calm the guests. went to change out of her dress, and hasn’t been back since. She stood up for our reputation while you tore hers apart,” Victor hissed.
Kaleb’s face tightened with worry. “What? Where is she now? She sent me her location last night.”
He pulled out his phone, his hand shaking. “She… The police called me earlier. They said they found her wedding dress at Mirror Lake.”
I let out a bitter laugh.
Kaleb was finally starting to realize I was gone.
“How should I know? Did you even think about her when you ran away from the wedding? Isn’t it a little late to act like you care now?” Victor scoffed.
“Dad, I’m going to find her now,” Kaleb said urgently.
“I’m coming with you,” Alena said.
It was funny, watching Kaleb rush off to find me a dead person.
Kaleb, it was too late.
At the police station, Kaleb got straight to the point. “Sir, what happened?”
“Mr. Harrington, carly this morning, a jogger spotted something in the river and thought it was a body, so he called it in. Turns out, it was your

wife’s wedding dress-” the police officer said.
Alena chimed in. “Did you guys find anything else besides the dress?”
The officer glanced briefly at her. “No.”
“Then maybe Vannah threw it in the river out of spite,” Alena said, her tone casual. “Sir. she loves pulling stunts like this. Honestly, we don’t have time to humor her.”
Luke Russell, the police chief, frowned at her words. “And you are?”
“I’m Savannah’s younger sister. She’s always been manipulative. When I was five, she lured me out, pushed me into the river, and tried to drown. me. Even now, she loves setting me up. She’s great at playing the victim and getting people on her side.”
Her words irritated me, and I yelled, “That’s a lie! I never did any of it!” Like always, no one could hear.
I tried to defend myself so many times, but no one ever listened. They all believed I was just trying to cover up hurting Alena.
As I expected Luke to believe her story without question, he looked calm. and convinced.
“We found blood on the dress, and it matches Ms. Savannah’s DNA. The dress also has two holes, likely made by something sharp. If she was wearing it, she’d have been stabbed in the abdomen and back.
“So we think she may have died,” Luke explained.
Kaleb’s face went pale. His hand shook so badly that the cup of water spilled across the table.
