Chapter 5 Kaleb Changed
Kaleb refused to believe anything had happened to me. He slammed the car door shut and tried my number again, only to hear the same–my phone was ofl.
Frustrated, he opened WhatsApp.
Alena’s chat sat pinned at the top, and her name stood out with a heart emoji.
For years, my chat had held that spot.
Two years ago. I discovered hers had it.
Kaleb had her saved as “pain in the ass” at first, but later changed it to “Ally.”
When I asked about it, guilt flashed across his face. He scrambled for excuses and even called me petty and pushy.
It all started three years ago when Alena returned to the Brook family and began targeting me.
With her act, she made my parents and brother see me as a cruel, jealous sister and hate me.
I thought Kaleb would be different. We grew up together, and he knew me better than anyone.
He changed before I even noticed.
He started looking at me the way my family did.
Chapter & Kaler Changed.
The signs were there, but I didn’t want to see them. While he pulled away, I was still holding on to what we used to be.
Kaleb scrolled through his WhatsApp messages, overwhelmed by the flood of condolences after the wedding disaster. Eventually, he found
mine.
My location and the last message I had sent him.
Savannah: “Kaleb, we need to talk.”
He stared blankly at it.
Then, he sent me voice messages. “Savannah, where are you?”
“I told you to stop your little games. We’re married now. Why do you have to make things so hard for Ally? Do you have any idea how upset she was yesterday?”
“If you come back now, I’ll pretend last night didn’t happen.“.
With that, he tossed the phone aside. His assistant noticed his worried and weary face through the rearview mirror.
“Mr. Harrington, Mrs. Harrington is always been reasonable. She kept her cool yesterday, even with the wedding mess. I don’t think she’d pull something like this, especially not involve the police. Shouldn’t we try to find her?” his assistant said carefully.
“You think you know her, don’t you?” Kaleb shot back.
“No, Mr. Harrington. I just feel sorry for her.”
“Feel sorry for her?” Kaleb sneered.
“She’s such a drama queen. If you don’t have anything else to do, send
someone to Mirror Lake. Maybe they’ll fish out her corpse, huh?”
When someone hated a person, they didn’t need a reason. Whatever that person did just became another excuse.
I saw Kaleb’s betrayal coming.
When he stopped criticizing Alena and started making her the focus of his conversations, it was clear.
Kaleb remembered her favorite things.
When he traveled for work, he brought gifts for both me and her.
Six months ago, Kaleb went abroad for a project inspection.
An earthquake hit that country, causing landslides.
I booked a flight to see him immediately, but Alena had hidden my passport and visa.
So I could only stay as she flew over to him.
Desperate, I crossed the Pacific illegally and was caught in a tsunami.
Strangers saved me from the sea, but relief didn’t last long.
When I got home, Alena accused me of taking a cruise vacation.
I tried to explain about the passport, but she pulled it out of a drawer in front of everyone, as if I had lied.
Kaleb refused to hear me out and said some terrible things.
I looked at him, a man I once trusted but could no longer recognize. Then I made up my mind.
“Kaleb, let’s end the engagement.”
“You must be joking,” he replied with a scowl.
“I’ve done everything I can for this relationship. But I won’t let us turn into people who hate each other. Let’s stop this before it gets worse,” I said, keeping calm.
When Kaleb realized I meant it, I saw panic in his eyes.
After that. he promised to keep Alena away.
He showered me with gifts, gave me a grand proposal, and threw himself into planning our wedding.
For a while, I believed we would live happily ever after.
Three months ago.
After a night of drinking, we had sex, and I found out I was pregnant. I was thrilled, ready to share the news with him.
But Alena set me up again. She threw herself down the stairs on purpose.
Kaleb stormed in and scooped her up. When I tried to explain, he shoved me aside.
At that moment, I realized the gifts and proposal were just distractions, masking his feelings for her.
It took almost nothing for everything to fall apart.
He trusted Alena, whether she had proof or not.
When I hit the ground, pain tore through me, and I blacked out. Later, the doctors told me my pregnancy was at risk. For days, I underwent
treatment to keep my baby
His assistant told me Kaleb was busy with a major project. He knew I was in the hospital but didn’t come to see me.
I didn’t care anymore. My only focus was the baby.
I was determined to bring this child safely into the world.
But then Alena came to me. She stood by my bed, telling me how Kaleb held her, kissed her, and touched her.
My stomach churned, and then I felt wetness spreading down there. I knew something was wrong.
Too weak to reach the call button, I called out for the doctor.
Panicked. I climbed out of bed. I had to keep my baby, even if I broke up with Kaleb.
I glanced back and saw blood on the bed..
The pain was killing me. Cold sweat broke out as I stumbled toward the door.
Blood ran down my legs and left a trail on the floor.
I carried on with hope.
Then everything went dark, and I hit the floor.
