Chapter 4
Samson was still furious..
But Maurice, feeling guilty, stopped him from lashing out at me.
Then Maurice said to me a bit apologetically, “Forget it. I admit I was a little impulsive earlier. Since you said you were fine, let go. We’ll put this behind us. We’re about to enjoy some spicy food; join us.
“But you gotta promise you won’t pick on Amanda ever again.”
What a master good at using the carrot–and–stick approach.
But he forgot one thing.
I had a stomach condition and couldn’t handle spicy food.
Back then, Maurice always wanted me to eat more, and after changing several chefs, he was still unsatisfied.
He finally resorted to searching for information online all night to prepare a recipe for me.
Worried that I might not like some of the food in the recipe, Brooke ate with me according to the recipe.
Samson even supervised me every day, making sure I stuck to the plan strictly.
It seemed none of them remembered these anymore.
A cold wind blew, and a chill run from my spine, spreading to every par
of my body.
I shivered; then I realized my skin burnt by the spark hadn’t been treated yet. Chances were, it was going to blister.
As I felt so uncomfortable, Samson walked past me while bumping me to the side.
“What a drama queen,” he muttered.
I couldn’t stand still any longer and was about to fall down the stairs.
Brooke acted quickly and grabbed me by the arm; after a few seconds of hesitation, he helped me to the couch.
I was a flicker of conflict flashing across his eyes.
Yet, in the end, he chose to leave with the others. The three of them walked out while flanking Amanda.
After they walked out of the door, the maid couldn’t stand it anymore and immediately called an ambulance for me.
Maria rushed to the hospital; upon seeing how miserable I was, she was furious
“Those brats! How could they do this do you?
“Rest assured, Grace. When I come back, I’ll make sure they come here to apologize to you!”
I smiled, saying that I was OK It was my poor health to blame.
After soothing her, I stayed hospitalized for observation for a few days
Only after I completely recovered did she allow me to be discharged:
A few days were wasted, and I had to hurry with the rest of my plaus.
I went back to Greenwood Residence to pack up, wanting to say bye to Maurice, Samson, Brooke, and the maids.
After I came back, I learned that the maid, Margaret Bowen, who called the ambulance for me, had been fired by Amanda.
The rest of the maids all kept their distance from me.
I stood on the balcony for an entire afternoon before being told stepbrothers had gone on vacation together with Amanda.
They went to Los Angeles. It was on my bucket list.
my three
And they went to Lake Huron, the place I had always wanted to visit but never had a chance.
I smiled self–mockingly and picked up my luggage.
I was torn, thinking about what to tell them, but as it turned out, no one cared at all.
The only remaining thing for me to do was to say bye to Maria.
Then I could leave without any attachments.
