Stepping out of the hospital, the cool breeze
brought tears to my eyes.
Mark and I had been together for eight years,
married for four.
We’d finally conceived a child, and he does
this disgusting thing.
He knew how much I hated Susan for driving my mom to her death. He knew how Chloe bullied me as a child, how she threw me out
into the snow in the middle of winter with
nothing but a blanket.
He knew all of this, yet he could be seduced
by Chloe just like that.
I slumped over the steering wheel, sobbing.
When I was done, I turned around and walked
back into the hospital.
“Doctor, I want an abortion.”
At the same time, I sent a message to my
secretary.
“Schedule a board meeting for next month. It’s time for a change of CEO at Horizon
Entertainment.”
Leaving the operating room, my legs felt
weak.
It was a child I had longed for, and now it was
gone. I couldn’t deny the sadness.
But compared to being tied to a cheating scumbag because of a child, I preferred a
clean break.
I asked the housekeeper to pack my bags. When I got home, I saw Mark wearing an apron, bustling around in the kitchen.
Seeing me, he smiled and brought out a
steaming bowl of porridge.
“Ashley, you’re back. Come eat.”
Looking at the preserved egg and lean meat
porridge, my heart softened.
When my mother was alive, this was her
specialty.
But as I reached for it, Chloe snatched the

She let go right in front of me, and the
scalding hot porridge spilled all over me,
burning my skin.
“Oops, sorry, Ashley, I didn’t mean to.”
She bit her lip, looking as if she was about to
cry. “I didn’t mean to antagonize you, why do
you always have it out for me?”
I snapped. I slapped her hard across the face.
“Stop playing the victim.”
Hearing the commotion, Mark rushed out and
pulled me away, frowning.
He protectively pulled Chloe into his arms, but
then hesitated and let her go, noticing my

“Ashley,” he sighed, “can you stop being so
paranoid? Chloe was just trying to be nice
and bring you a bowl of porridge. After how you treated her at the hospital this afternoon, she still wanted to apologize.”
“Even if you don’t like her, she’s still your
sister. Can’t you be more magnanimous?”
Chloe cowered behind him, whimpering,
“Mark, I’m scared.”
I couldn’t stand to look at this pair of cheaters any longer. I took out the divorce
papers from my bag and threw them at him.
“Let’s get divorced.”
