Chapter 7
Markus came to before Raquel. Right before the car crash,
Raquel turned the steering wheel toward herself.
He sat next to Raquel. It seemed like he finally got a good look.
at her.
Markus had been left behind by many people. When he was little, he and his dad were kidnapped. There was only room for
one person on the boat, and he was left behind.
No matter how much he cried or shouted, he could only watch as the boat got farther and farther away.
His mom had promised she’d never leave him, but she ended up killing herself with a rope.
Many people came into his life and left him without a second. thought. He was always the one getting abandoned.
However, Raquel had every reason to leave him, yet she didn’t.
He always thought he could see right through people, but this time, he had no idea what Raquel wanted.
“What does she want?” he wondered.
Chapter 7
It felt like waking up from a weird dream. When I opened my
eyes, Markus was staring at me thoughtfully.
My heart dropped. Did he realize I had feelings for him?
He kept looking at me. Our eyes were locked, and my palms
were sweating like I was waiting for a judgment.
“Why did you save me?” he asked.
My mind was racing. The next second, I smiled, “You know, I’m a
gambler.
“Not everyone gets the chance to save the CEO of the Serrano
Group.”
Markus frowned, looking at me quietly like he was trying to
figure out if I was telling the truth. “What do you want?”
In their world, the idea was that the ones who seemed to want
nothing actually wanted the most. And the only thing that made
people feel safe was a clear exchange of interests.
I thought hard about what would be worth risking my life for-
something that would make Markus feel secure. “I want 1% of
the Serrano Group’s shares. In exchange, I’ll be set for life.”
Markus‘ frown eased up. I knew I had made the right move. He
smiled, “Shares are too risky. How about a shop in a busy area

instead? What do you think?”
I smiled back. “A shop worth several million dollars. Thanks, Mr.
Serrano.”

We both got what we wanted. Markus didn’t have to feel guilty
about anything, so he stood up and said casually, “Get some
rest. You don’t need to worry about the engagement anymore.”
I spent a whole week in the hospital and got out on Markus‘
engagement day.
My phone was flooded with news about the Serrano and Velez
families joining together. The place was decorated with roses,
looking like something out of a dream.
It should have been great. Everything was supposed to be clear
now. I did what I had to do and got what I deserved. So why did I
still feel a bit sad?
I was wandering around with nothing to do and ended up at a
bar by accident.
Over the years, I had mostly been the one cleaning up after
everyone else, so I rarely drank and didn’t really like it.
They said drinking could wash away their sorrows, but the alcohol was so bitter that it made me cry. My tears fell into the
drink, mixing with it to make it even more bitter and salty.
Chapter 7
Before I got drunk, I ordered a ride home, asking them to get me
there safely.
