- 8.
After that day, Leyla started to punish those
who harmed me.
She ordered her people to treat the warden
the same way he treated me.
Leyla told me that the reason why she had
<
been so lenient with Niko before was because
Niko had saved her during the avalanche.
After I told her that it was me who saved her
and showed her the token, she no longer had any feelings for Niko.
Niko was also sent to that hellish prison, and Leyla ordered her men to “treat him well“.
I heard that he had lost one ear, had a lame
leg, and was mentally ill.
Linda’s wedding was coming soon, and I was
going to deal with Conroy.
Leyla was efficient. She had found the driver
who was bribed by Conroy and was now out
of prison.
Under Leyla’s investigation, the driver told the truth of what happened that year. Leyla
recorded it and gave it to me.
On my sister’s wedding day, I wore the same white suit that I wore when I was wrongly
accused.
When Linda saw me in this suit, she became
furious, “You still have the nerve to come
here? You lowly thing, are you here to bring
bad luck to me?”
Her face darkened. “Do you know that you
are a sinner? Why are you so unrepentant?
How can you wear this outfit so calmly?”
Holding her tightly, Conroy looked triumphant
but he began to act, “Linda. Phillip was young
and probably didn’t know much so he wanted
and probably didn’t know much, so he wanted to eat Brownies, which led to your mother
and my brother’s accident. Now that he has finished his prison sentence, he should have
matured a lot.”
As soon as Conroy said this, the guests around me looked at me with either sarcasm
or disgust.
My sister even wanted to slap me.
But she was stopped by Leyla, who was
standing beside me.
My sister looked at Leyla angrily. “What kind
of drug did this bastard give you to make you
help him like this? He doesn’t deserve it!”
Leyla frowned and said firmly, “You will regret
treating Phillip like this.”
Facing the accusations and insults from my
sister, I had become numb.
But I had to clear my name. I couldn’t be
framed.
I took out the recorder and flipped the switch,
and the driver’s voice echoed throughout the
wedding scene.
My sister’s expression changed from disgust
to shock, and then to guilt and self–blame.
“Phillip…” She looked at me with eyes full of
heartache and slapped herself hard a few
times. “It’s my fault. I’m sorry. You can punish
me however you want.
L
From now on, let me take care of you, okay?”
I raised my phone and smiled. “Thank you, sister. Today is your wedding, and I should
give you a gift.”
Only then did my sister realize something and started scolding Conroy, who was so scared
that his face turned pale.
Her voice was cold. “You trash, the wedding
is canceled. From now on, you will spend the
rest of your life in prison with Niko.”
As the instigator who caused me to suffer so
much, Conroy knew the horror of prison and
those cruel torture methods.
He shouted desperately, “No! I don’t want to
go to prison! Linda, didn’t you promise to
marry me? I have loved you for so many
years. I did everything for you!”
Linda smiled and said, “You killed my mother
and my husband, and almost killed my
younger brother. Is this love?”
She looked at Conroy with disgust and said, “It’s really unfortunate to be loved by you.
You make me sick!”
Conroy was taken away by the bodyguards.
Because of Linda’s words, he cried and then
laughed, like a madman:
His love for Linda for so many years turned
into nothing. His dream shattered, and the
wedding became a farce.
Linda forced out an ugly smile, “Phillip, I’m
not getting married. How could I marry such a bastard who hurt you and our family? You
don’t have to give me a gift.”
She choked and said, “I know I have done so many wrong things that you can’t forgive me. I hope to have a chance to take care of you. Whatever you want to do, I will try my best to
help you.
Is that okay, Phillip?” She looked at me
pleadingly, very humbly.
But I could never forget the harm I have
suffered and everything she had done to me.
Leyla and Linda were both sinners, sinners
whom I couldn’t forgive.
How could I give her a chance to make up for
it like this?
She committed such a heinous crime, but she
asked for a chance to make amends to save
herself from guilt.
How naive and selfish she was!
I smiled and raised my phone again. “Sister, I
must give you this gift.”
I waved to her and then walked upstairs.
I knew that both Leyla and Linda would
follow.
Because now was the time when their guilt
and remorse reached their peak.
They would agree to anything I asked, even though what I asked wasn’t even a request.
Linda finally felt something was wrong when I arrived at the rooftop. “Phillip, what are you going to do? Do you hate me, so you want to punish me like this?”
She instantly shed tears. “It’s fine if you want to punish me, but don’t punish yourself like
this!”
Leyla also shouted in panic, “Phillip, don’t do something stupid! You are not taking revenge by doing this, you are punishing yourself!”
It was ridiculous.
Was I punishing myself? I died the moment I
was sent to prison.
Now I was nothing more than a shell.
So, this was not a punishment.
My survival was just a comfort to Leyla and
Linda.
I didn’t want to comfort them or give them
the chance to make amends and repent.
I smiled and waved to them, then jumped
down from the tall building under their
bloodshot eyes.
“Phillip!”
In the haze of consciousness, I heard a heart-
wrenching cry.
My white suit was also stained red with blood.
