Chapter 5
Richard instinctively turned around, and then he met my eyes.
He sneered, “What am I supposed to look at?”
The housekeeper was so anxious that he sweated profusely. He said hastily, “Mr. Pascall, take a closer look at who she is!”
With that, he walked over to me and used his sleeves to wipe the blood and tears off my face gently.
The second Richard saw my face clearly, he was stunned. The noise of something heavy falling to the floor rang out in the operating room, which was deafening.

How ridiculous. Richard claimed he loved me so much, but he figured I was a mere stranger when I was right in front of him.
On the contrary, his assistant and housekeeper recognized me at first glance.
What a joke.
Richard took a few steps back, almost stumbling. After quite a while, he muttered, feeling unreal, “How… How?”
His hands trembled uncontrollably as he parted his lips a few times; after a few seconds, he still couldn’t bring himself to say my name.
Noticing his demeanor, Trista tugged at his sleeve gently, but he ignored.

He stumbled toward me and said in a broken, husky voice, “Lizzie?
“Is it really… you?
“Why didn’t you… tell me? I…” He tried to grab my hand, but I shook his hand away hard.
His breathing paused for a second, and he felt so guilty and remorseful that his eyes turned bloodshot.
Looking at him, I just wanted to laugh sarcastically.
I said, my hoarse voice as gentle as ever, “I told you. But you told me to shut up every time I tried.”
“I…” The muscles on his face twitched.
“I was too anxious… I wasn’t paying attention… That’s why I didn’t recognize you,” he stuttered, tr Purchase completed by himself by coming up with an excuse, but he was so guilty that he couldn’t look me in the eye.
I said, “It’s my fault. My blood disgusted you.”
Taking a deep breath, I continued, “It makes sense that… you didn’t. recognize me,”
His face turned red as he clenched his fists and slumped to the floor while leaning against the operating table. “I’m sorry, Lizzie. I said the wrong thing.
“Don’t worry. I’m here now. You’ll be fine.”
I smiled, though my eyes dimmed even more, “Chill. Even if something happens to me, I won’t blame you. It’s just that I’m so unlucky.
“Without me, you can enjoy your anniversary with your wife even more

Hearing this, Richard slapped himself so hard that he even cut his lip.
“I’m so sorry, Honey. I didn’t mean it! Don’t take it seriously. Don’t be mad at me, OK?”
sneered and said with disgust, “Don’t call me that. It sickens me.”
He was hurt by the coldness in my eyes, his eyes brimming with tears.

I suddenly laughed.

“Go ask your dead baby and see if he forgives you.”
He froze, his face turning ghastly pale. His body shook before he slumped to the floor totally.
His beefy body hit the cold, hard floor, causing a dull sound. At this precise moment, he had the urge to kill himself.

Though there were a dozen people present, the room was deadly silent; only the sound of breathing could be heard.
