Chapter 26
He was two years inferior to me in college, a law major.
We knew each other because we were in the same debate class. I was the president, while he was the vice president.
When Alonso left, he gave me some anti–hangover candies,
I watched as he went back to his seat. My colleague came over with a smile. “Grace, I never invited Alonso.
“After all, we’re not close at all.
“He took the initiative to contact me and ask me if you would show up.”
It had been a few years since I saw Alonso the last time. He had become one of the richest lawyers in New York City.
I left before the banquet was over.
Alonso happened to leave early as well.
In the elevator, Alonso said, “Grace, I always want to see you again.”
I squinted my eyes as I stared at Alonso, who was much taller than me.
Alonso couldn’t help but cough a bit. When he was about to speak, the
doors opened as the elevator reached the basement.
A man was standing outside, which surprised me. “Antonio? What are you doing here?”
Before I could finish, Antonio walked into the elevator and pulled me out by the wrist.
