I brought my dad’s ashes to the cemetery.
I laid his urn to rest next to my mom and sat there quietly for a long
while.
It wasn’t until Dominik called that I realized he was looking for me.
He called a bunch of times and finally sent a voice message, telling me to get back as soon as possible.
I bowed to the headstone three times, stood up, and left the cemetery.
On the drive back, I felt oddly calm. My mind was completely blank.
As I pulled up to our place, I saw Donna pacing anxiously at the door.
She hurried over as soon as I got out of the car. “Mrs. Schwartz, where have you been?”
“What’s the matter?” I asked casually.
“Is… is the baby in your belly okay?” Donna looked at my stomach with
concern.
I walked inside without answering and Donna followed me behind.
