Sabrina waved her hands frantically at Matthew and shouted, “Dad, come save us!”

Matthew heard her and whipped around toward the girls. But just as he was about to make a move, he caught sight of Brianna on the other side.
He froze in his tracks.
At that moment, Sabrina’s heart sank like a stone.
The flames were going wild, and it was obvious he could only rescue one of them.
Matthew locked gazes with Sabrina, his face a picture of inner conflict.
But then, he toughened up and headed the other way, straight
for Brianna.
Sabrina knew it then–she’d been ditched yet again.
As Matthew carried Brianna out of the inferno, any glimmer of hope Sabrina had placed in him fizzled out.
With the flames closing in, she hardly had the energy to feel sad.
The smoke was stinging Olivia’s eyes, and she was losing steam

Sabrina forced herself to keep a cool head. Just when she thought they were goners, she spotted a window in the corner, and an idea popped into her head.
Throwing caution to the wind, she dashed back to grab a
blanket, soaked it in water, and wrapped it around herself. Then she rushed back to Olivin.
“Olivia, hold on tight,” Sabrina coaxed, giving her friend a gentle shake.
“Rina, I’m beat. I feel like I’m going to die,” Olivia gasped, totally spent and not willing to budge an inch.
“Don’t talk like that! We’ll make it out alive,” Sabrina said. firmly. She squatted down and hoisted Olivia onto her back.
The frail Sabrina staggered towards the window, step by painful step, with her friend on her back.
They were just a few feet away when, all of a sudden, an explosion went off behind them, making the ground tremble.
Sabrina’s heart dropped. She quickly readjusted Olivia on her back.
The blast was car–splitting. A sharp pain stabbed through her left ear, and then everything around her went dead silent.
Sabrina rolled on the ground, clutching her throbbing car. But

she gritted her teeth, managed to shove Olivia through the window, and then squeezed out right after.
Once outside, some kind–hearted passers–by called for ar ambulance.

Sabrina looked at him, totally thrown off. “What did I do?”
Matthew’s face was stone–cold.
Without saying a word, he hauled off and slapped her, right across the left ear.

The physical pain and the emotional storm inside her were just too much. Sabrina snapped and yelled back, “It wasn’t me! It was her! She tried to kill me!”
At that moment, she felt like she was losing her grip on reality.
But no matter how much Sabrina pleaded or how hard she tried to set the record straight, nobody bought her story.
Everyone just assumed she’d started the fire on purpose to kill
Brianna.
She was branded a criminal in the Sterling family.
Later, at school, Sabrina tracked down Olivia, who promised to come to her place that evening and back her up.
That night, Sabrina was a bundle of hope and excitement, thinking she’d finally clear her name.
But the cold, hard truth hit her like a ton of bricks.
Olivia, who’d once had her back, now pointed a finger at her and declared, “It was her! She wanted to kill Brianna!”
The glimmer of hope in Sabrina’s eyes fizzled out.

From that very moment, she not only lost her hearing in the left ear but also her once–best friend.
Sabrina snapped out of those painful recollections and suddenly cracked a smile.
“Why wouldn’t I hate you?”
There’s nothing I loathe more than betrayal.
Olivia bit her lip and pushed on. “So, you’re out for revenge on me, huh?”
Sabrina shook her head. “The Morgan family dug their own grave. It’s got nothing to do with me.”
Sure, she still carried a grudge against Olivia, but the downfall and takeover of the Morgan family had no connection to her ex–friend.
Sabrina had simply set her sights on the Morgan family’s worth.
“Is there any way to save the Morgan family?” Olivia already knew in her gut what the answer would be, but there was still a tiny shred of hope as she asked.
After all, Sabrina had once risked her life to protect Olivia.
Olivia knew that even her own parents might not have gone that far.
Without a second thought, Sabrina squashed Olivia’s fading

Ever since that disastrous day, guilt had been eating awawatt Olivia every time she laid eyes on Sabrina. As time went by, thiatt guilt morphed into resentment.
She started to hold it against Sabrina for throwing their friendship out the window, and that anger changed her completely.
Olivia began to go out of her way to oppose Sabrina, even resorting to bullying her, just like the other cold–hearted! members of the Morgan family.
The kind–hearted Olivia from their childhood seemed like a thing of the past.
Now, confronted with the harsh reality of their situation, Olivia felt the burden of coming clean.
“I didn’t mean to tell those lies back then.

“My dad put the squeeze on me. He said Brianna was the real heiress of the Sterling family. If I didn’t help Brianna with false testimony, he’d boot my mom and me out of the Morgan family and let his mistress and her son take our place.”
Sabrina listened closely, her face showing no sign of shock, as if she’d had it all figured out ages ago.
Olivia’s face went as white as a sheet when she realized the
truth. “You knew?”
“Yeah.” Sabrina had found out a long time ago, all thanks to Brianna.
After what happened that day, Hailey had already squared things away with the Morgan family in advance.
Olivia’s expression crumpled.
Sabrina let out a mocking laugh. “You don’t seriously think I’ll forgive you just because you finally decided to come clean, do you?”
Olivia bit her lip, and it felt like an eternity before she could find
her voice.
Sabrina, noticing the despondent look on her former friend’s face, smirked cruelly. “The biggest regret I’ve got is saving your life that day.
“At ten, I lost my left ear, and my best friend Olivia died in that fire.”
