Nolan and Eliza wandered through several streets. By the end, Eliza was starting to feel a bit worn out.
“It’s been ages since I’ve had a chance to just wander around like this,” said Eliza, laughing.
Eliza’s mood was light and carefree tonight.
She had always been so tense, always on guard. When was the last time she’d felt this free?
“Did you have fun?” asked Nolan, turning to look at her.
Eliza nodded firmly. “Yes, I did. I’m happy.”
She truly meant it. She was genuinely happy.

After releasing the wishing lanterns, it would be time to head back.

Nolan walked beside her. They strolled toward the river.
As they passed through a dense crowd, Nolan fell half a step behind Eliza. From within his sleeve, a dagger slid into his hand. With a swift, silent motion, he plunged it into the side of an unassuming man who had been about to lunge forward.
The blade sank in with a muted sound, barely audible amidst the bustling crowd.
Nolan’s movements were precise and controlled, and the dagger instantly pierced the man’s flesh. All the sounds were absorbed by the crowd, ensuring Eliza remained completely unaware. By the time he brushed past the man, a shadowy figure had stepped in to quietly remove the lifeless body, leaving no trace behind.
Nolan’s eyes darkened with irritation. He thought, “Couldn’t Eliza and I even enjoy a peaceful evening without trouble finding us again and again?”
The first assassin fell silently. Nolan’s sharp gaze swept through the crowd, quickly identifying several more targets.
He gestured subtly behind him, and his men swiftly moved forward past them.
