Chapter 15
Millard curled his lip discreetly. “It’s late. I’ll stay here with Rosella. You may come back in the morning.”
“No. I shouldn’t let you…” Mollie instantly wanted to say no.
But he interrupted her, “Or Lamont would blame her for causing trouble as soon as she returned. I’m sure you don’t want her to blame herself when she comes around, right?”
He sounded quite considerate now.
Mollie nodded. “I guess you’re right. Alright; I’ll come back tomorrow. If Rosa comes around…”
“I’ll call you,” he said.
Drifting in and out of unconsciousness, Rosella seemed to see a person sitting by the bed.
He had broad shoulders and a watch on his raised wrist, and he
remained motionless.
Opening her eyes, she recognized Millard. Instantly, cold sweat
drenched her back, and she instinctively shrank to the other side of the bed.
Noticing her reaction, he asked, “You claimed you had feelings for me back then. What is it? You’re afraid of me now?”
He cursed her to suffer and to die miserably. How dare she have feelings for him?

Unlike before, she wouldn’t throw herself at him while throwing caution to the wind again.
Suppressing an inexplicable pang of loss, he asked, “You didn’t resist when they pushed you into the sea? Since when did you become such a coward?”
Hearing his words, she began to recall what happened last night. She was dragged to the sea, and then a group of people led by Jillian pushed her into the sea and didn’t allow her to come ashore. It was so windy when she walked back, and even though she took a warm shower, she still had a high fever.
She totally forgot how she was taken down the mountain.
It was actually Millard who brought her down?
How rare. But she no longer needed him to be nice to her.
“Mr. Dunn, you took me down the mountain? Thank you.” Her voice was hoarse due to the fever.
“No need to thank me. Dewey begged me to do this.”
He seemed annoyed about meddling in someone else’s business. “Mollie knew. She’ll talk to the Freeman family to break off the engagement. You don’t have to fawn Elliot up anymore.”
“What?”
Rosella had never cried when she was pushed into the sea or bossed around and humiliated like a maid, but she actually shed tears now. “No. The engagement must stay on.”
“Are you saying you like being insulted?”
“The engagement must stay on,” she repeated after a few seconds of

silence.
If it was canceled, she’d be sent back to that abyss.
No way.
“What is it? Have you fallen for Elliot?” It was merely a casual remark.
To his surprise, she nodded through tears. “Yes. So, don’t break off the engagement.”
For some reason, her answer made Millard’s heart sink.
He was the one she had said she had feelings for. And now, she claimed she had feelings for Elliot after they met a few times?
Back then, she had sworn she’d only love him this whole life.
Suddenly, he stood up, pulling a long face, though he didn’t even know what he was upset about. “Have some self–esteem!”
No matter what, the engagement was off the table.
Mollie had a complete fallout with the Freeman family that very day and demanded Elliot apologize to Rosella personally. Rosella was taken back home, and she could still hear Mollie and Lamont argue even after she hid in her room.
Lamont was utterly pissed off. He stormed upstairs and slammed the door to the study shut, his chest heaving. He had no idea who’d marry Rosella now.
Just then, he received a work call.
It was Luigi Ferrell, his assistant.
Soon, Lamont had a person in mind.

Dewey came back after a week. Not daring to come home, he first hid in Millard’s place for a few days. Millard then went to collect the payments for several year–end projects, and only then did he come back- to the branch.
The elevator rose from the basement floor.
Millard looked up when the elevator doors opened, only to see the smiling Rosella. But instead of smiling at him, she was smiling at Luigi.
Both Millard and Rosella were slightly stunned.
Then she put away her smile and lowered her head.
Luigi, Lamont’s right–handed man, had worked at the Rowe Group for years and had known Rosella from a long time ago. Millard had seen her send Luigi a gift once, and under the moonlight, Luigi said to her, the tips of his ears red, “You remember my birthday…”
After a brief pause, Luigi reached out to block the elevator door. He smiled, though his eyes were devoid of any emotion, “Mr. Dunn, aren’t you gonna come in?”
