Chapter 37

Alone upstairs, James couldn’t shake the Image of Zachary and Sarah leaving together

His brow furrowed as he lit a cigarette

Had Sarah really betrayed him during their marriage

Remembering Sarah’s cold detachment during their divorce, James realized it wasn’t impossible

Taking a deep drag from his cigarette, he picked up his phone and found her numberone he rarely dialed

Driven by curiosity and suspicion, he felt compelled to confront Sarah

The call connected quickly, but a mechanical voice responded: Sorry, the number you have dialed is not available. Please try again later.”

James frowned, hanging up and immediately redialing

Sorry, the number you have dialed is not”

He slammed the end call button, gripping his phone tightly, his face dark with anger

Damn Sarah

She’d actually blocked his number

James’s appearance hadn’t particularly affected Sarah. With work the next day, she went to bed early

The following morning at school, her colleague immediately called her to a meeting

As in previous years, the school was organizing its annual psychology competition to promote student engagement and learning

This year’s timing was awkward. Usually held earlier, various school activities had pushed it back to midterm season. The teachers normally in charge were busy helping students prepare for exams, creating an uncomfortable situation

Why don’t we let Miss Sanders handle the competition?one teacher suggested, glancing at Sarah. She’s the Associate Dean’s protégé, not much older than the students, and has experience organizing events from her student council days. She should be

able to manage it.”

All eyes in the office turned to Sarah

Adams University prioritized education, with psychology being a flagship program. Sarah knew how overwhelmed teachers got during exam season, so she nodded in agreement. If everyone trusts me with this, I’m happy to take it on.”

The matter was settled, and word quickly spread that Sarah would be organizing this year’s psychology competition. Given her reputation at the university, she began receiving inquiries about registration before lunch break even started

At lunchtime, Mia bounded into her office like an energetic bunny. Sarah! I’ve been waiting forever downstairs. It’s lunchtime- why aren’t you coming down?”

Sarah checked the time, surprised at how quickly it had passed

She rubbed her nose bridge, feeling a headache coming on. I’m working on the competition proposal. We’ve had unexpectedly high registration numbers. I was confident at first, but now I’m feeling overwhelmed.”

That’s no problem,Mia said, linking arms with Sarah. This afternoon, we’ll visit the Events Committee to set up a booth, put up promotional posters on the bulletin boards, and get some committee members to help with registration. If we’re still swamped, I can ask the Student Council president for help. We can move the competition to the main auditorium if needed.”

Despite her princesslike appearance, Mia, as the Reynolds family’s precious daughter, had impressive organizational skills. Sarah had considered these solutions but was hampered by being new and not knowing many students. With Mia’s help, everything would be much easier

She fondly ruffled Mia’s hair. Clever girl. Come on, lunch is my treat today. Order whatever you want.”

Mia grinned like a mischievous kitten. Since you offered, I won’t hold back. I’m going to order everything on the menu!”
