Mrs. Chancer pointed a trembling finger at Sarah, her face livid with rage. “You! How dare you do such a thing! At the Reynolds
event!!”
She turned to Zachary, her voice filled with righteous indignation. “Mr. Reynolds, Sarah set someone up to hurt my daughter! You
have to see the truth!”
Sarah let out a derisive laugh. “Oh, how convenient to play the victim.”
“I’m telling the truth!” Lucy shrieked, her voice sharp enough to cut through the tension.
James stepped forward, his tone steady but forceful. “Why don’t we let Mr. Reynolds‘ grandfather decide? He’ll judge fairly.”
Zachary didn’t object and immediately instructed someone to invite his grandfather, along with a few other influential guests.
The gala hadn’t even officially begun, yet it was already rife with conflict. When Mr. Reynolds arrived, his face bore a trace of
displeasure. From his perspective, this seemed like Chancer family drama involving James’s ex–wife, now unnecessarily
involving the Reynolds.
He listened as Lucy gave her tearful, exaggerated recounting of events, painting Sarah as a bitter, jealous woman. Sarah then
calmly laid out the truth of what had happened. Zachary stood to the side, his expression dark, as Lucy continued her theatrics,
twisting the story to her advantage.
“Mr. Reynolds, you must do me justice!” Lucy cried, her voice quivering as she clutched her mother’s arm.
William rubbed his temples, clearly irritated by the spectacle. He looked at Zachary. “Your thoughts?”
“Grandfather,” Zachary began, his voice cold, “I’m fully aware of what happened in the garden. I was the one who intervened to
help Sarah. As for the matter of inviting Lucy upstairs, that was also my arrangement. I wanted her to admit what she’d done.”
Lucy froze in place, her body trembling as she realized that the situation had spun out of her control. She had no idea the upstairs
incident was orchestrated by Zachary himself.
Sarah’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Initially, I only wanted Miss Chancer to admit her wrongdoing privately. I had no intention
of bringing it up at the event. But it seems she prefers weaving grand lies instead of showing remorse. Truly a case of refusing to
repent until the bitter end.”
Mrs. Chancer’s face turned beet red with fury. She pointed a finger at Sarah, shaking with anger. “Shut up! You schemed against
my daughter! I won’t let you get away with this!”
Charlotte chimed in, her voice soft but laced with an edge. “IfMiss Sanders is making such accusations, surely she has evidence
to back them up?” 1
Lucy immediately latched onto Charlotte’s words. “Exactly! Where’s your proof?”
“Who said I don’t have proof?” Sarah’s calm gaze shifted to Steven.

Moments later, a recording played, sharp and unmistakable: “Get away from me! Yes, I told you to target her… So what? You’ve already crossed the Reynolds family. Do you want to go against the Chancer family too?”
The voice was piercingly clear.
Lucy’s face turned ghostly pale as her knees buckled, sending her crumbling to the ground. It was unmistakably her voice. The recording echoed in the silent room like a hammer, leaving no doubt.
“Miss Chancer, that’s your voice,” Sarah said icily, her gaze piercing as she stared at Lucy.
Lucy shivered uncontrollably, unable to muster a single word. Meanwhile, Charlotte’s eyes widened in disbelief. Panic surged within her as she excused herself under the pretense of going to the restroom. James noticed her pale complexion and didn’t question her.
Inside the restroom, Charlotte clutched the sink, her hands trembling as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her face, pale
and stricken with fear, was a reflection of the chaos in her heart. Turning on the faucet, she let the cool water wash over her face,
calming her fraying nerves.
She couldn’t afford to lose control now. Her priority was to sever any connection to this incident and ensure Lucy didn’t implicate

oke the tense silence, her tone calm but firm. “Mr. Reynolds, I’m sorry this has caused you trouble. I think it’s best to
