Lucy nodded. “Alright, I understand.”
When Lucy and Lindsey reached the school gate, they found James waiting by his Maserati.
“James, you came to pick me up?” Lucy excitedly pulled Lindsey toward James. She felt nervous, fearing he might say he was here
for Sarah. After being embarassed last time, she was determined to make sure he took her home.
“Yes. Is this your classmate?” James nodded, greeting Lindsey.
Lucy’s pride swelled instantly. She told Lindsey smugly, “See? I told you my brother was coming for me. We’ll give you a ride
home too.‘
“She’s my classmate. Can we drop her off on the way?” She looked at James hopefully, afraid he’d refuse.
James frowned slightly but nodded.
Once in the car, Lindsey looked around, touching everything–she’d never been in such a luxury car before.
Lucy was too busy complaining, “Who would have expected that Sarah got Mr. Reynolds to help her. The whole school is speculating about their relationship. Students are guessing all sorts of things. I don’t understand how someone with such loose morals became a psychology counsellor.”
“What did you say?” James slammed on the brakes, his face darkening instantly.
Lucy rolled her eyes, annoyed. “Ah, you scared me! I’m saying the Reynolds family agreed to sponsor the competition. I heard the activities department contacted many people yesterday with no luck, but this morning we found out the Reynolds family had
already signed.” 1
James pressed his lips together, his eyes fierce. Why did Mr. Reynolds keep interfering?
Back at the Chancer house, Lucy angrily told her mother about it, while Charlotte looked surprised.
“See, James? Do you believe it now? You gave her all that money, and it’s benefiting others!” Mrs. Chancer fumed.
James left without a word, ignoring Charlotte’s questions.
“Mom! I don’t care, just get her out of Adams! I can’t stand seeing her! The school values her so much, letting her run the competition, and Mr. Reynolds is so good to her. What does he have that I don’t?” Lucy cried.
Charlotte understood her thoughts – she was clearly interested in Zachary.
An handsome face flashed through her mind. Indeed, even she would find it hard to resist such a man, especially given how the Chancer family couldn’t compare to the Reynolds.
Yet this man had chosen Sarah, a divorcee it was baffling

Charlotte felt only mockery inside. Lucy was full of schemes, less attractive than Sarah, yet dreamed of being with Zachary – pure
delusion
“Lucy, I have an idea,” Charlotte said after some thought.
