Chapter 93
Sarah had a few suspects in mind. Lucy and Mrs. Chancer hated her the most, and while James seemed unlikely to stoop to such
levels, she couldn’t rule him out completely. He had proven capable of shattering her past impressions of him.
After the chaos at the party, Lucy had taken the day off and stayed home. Without hesitation, Sarah decided to head to the
Chancer house.
The maid who opened the door looked startled to see her, likely because Lucy and Mrs. Chancer had been bad–mouthing Sarah
nonstop at home.
“Miss Sanders, what brings you here?” the maid asked.
“I’m here to see James,” Sarah replied directly.
“Mr. Chancer isn’t home. Perhaps you can come back another day,” the maid suggested.
A soft voice floated out from inside. “Who is it?”
Charlotte appeared and froze for a moment when she saw Sarah. Unsure of how to react, she let out an awkward laugh. “Oh, it’s
you. What brings you here?”
“I don’t have time for small talk,” Sarah said bluntly. “I lost my phone at the party yesterday, and I’m here to retrieve it.”
Charlotte looked confused for a moment but quickly recovered. “Miss Sanders, we didn’t find any phone while cleaning up yesterday. Are you sure you didn’t leave it somewhere else?”
“Could you double–check?”
Charlotte’s expression faltered, but she turned to the maid. “Did you see a phone while cleaning up yesterday?”
The maid thought for a moment. “No, I was cleaning the hall with another person. All we collected were empty glasses and
snacks–no phone.”
“See, Miss Sanders? We really didn’t find it. Maybe you should check elsewhere,” Charlotte said, subtly motioning for Sarah to
leave.
Sarah had anticipated this response. She wasn’t here to get answers; she was here to observe their reactions.
She was now sure Charlotte had no knowledge of the matter.
“Charlotte, who’s at the door?” Lucy’s voice called from upstairs. She was on her way to pour herself a glass of water but froze
when she saw Charlotte at the door.
When she realized it was Sarah, she set her glass down and stormed to the doorway. “What are you doing here again? Was ruining my party yesterday not enough?”
Charlotte sighed. “Lucy, Miss Sanders said she lost her phone at our house yesterday. I already told her we didn’t find anything,

but she doesn’t believe me.”
“Are you saying someone in the Chancer family would steal your phone?” Lucy sneered, her tone dripping with disdain. “You
probably just lost it and are using this as an excuse to get closer to my brother.”
Charlotte stiffened at Lucy’s words, her face slightly pale.
“Since it’s not here, I’ll be leaving,” Sarah said calmly. She was now certain Lucy wasn’t the culprit either.
Lucy smirked, clearly pleased with herself. “Instead of wasting your time looking for your phone here, maybe you should focus
on figuring out how to get Jane Lawrence to attend your event. I heard the whole school thinks you’ve already secured her. When
she doesn’t show, I can’t wait to see how humiliated you’ll be!”
Sarah cast a frosty glance her way. “I met Jane yesterday and extended the invitation. She hasn’t given me an answer yet, so how
can you be so sure she won’t come?”
Lucy laughed mockingly. “Don’t get your hopes up. Everyone knows Jane has turned down invitations from competitions far
more prestigious than your school’s. Do you really think she’d risk offending those people just to do you a favor?”
Sarah smiled faintly. “You should stop by the counseling center sometime. I’d be happy to take a look at your mental health
before it deteriorates beyond saving.”
Lucy’s face darkened, but Sarah was already turning to leave, her demeanor calm and unbothered
