Chapter 3
That night, Brigham did not come back.
Faye sat in her bedroom, organizing everything related to Brigham, including photos, gifts, and even buttons he had carelessly thrown aside.
She tossed everything into the box, piece by piece until she saw a soft, pink, cute baby outfit.
Gripping the soft fabric, she couldn’t help but feel the urge to cry.
When she was pregnant, she had eagerly awaited the arrival of the child. hoping they would get married and be together for life.
But now, the unborn baby, who was only three months along, had been ruthlessly killed by Brigham himself.
Faye suppressed the pain in her heart and threw the box into the trash.
The things were gone.
And with them, her love for Brigham was gone too.
The next day, Faye went straight to resign from the Swanson Group.
In the past, Brigham had been disabled, losing his right to inherit. It was a bastard child who took his place.
Later, his legs healed, and the first thing he did was sign a betting agreement. He could only reclaim everything if he doubled the company’s profits within three years.
Faye worked as his secretary, accompanying him to social events, drinking alcohol until her stomach bled, and staying up all night until she
fainted.
She did all this out of love.
But in the end, what did she get?
Fortunately, she would never be this foolish again.
When she was resigning, the company immediately erupted. Almost everyone tried to persuade her to stay.
“Faye, are you really going to resign? Can’t you stay just a little longer?”
“Yeah, weren’t we doing just fine at work? Why all of a sudden do you want to quit?”
“We were all promoted with your help. What will we do without you? And Mr. Swanson surely can’t do without you!”
Couldn’t do without her?
That was not true. He could do well without her.
Faye gave a self–deprecating smile and tugged at her lips.
“I’m really resigning. These years have been too exhausting. I want to take a good rest.
“You will all be fine, and so will he…”
After bidding farewell to everyone, Faye left the company with her personal belongings.
After returning home, Brigham’s call came through.
His voice held an unusual hint of shock. “You resigned?”
Faye calmly replied, “Yeah, I’m getting married. There’s too much going
- on. I can’t work.”
Brigham didn’t think much of it, assuming she had agreed to his previous proposal and was busy preparing for their wedding.
His tone softened. “Sorry, there’s a project and I have to go on a business trip, I won’t have time to help you with the wedding preparations.”
Before Faye could respond, a soft voice came through the phone.
“Howell, come on, talk to me…”
Brigham’s voice immediately grew distant. “Stop it. I’m on the phone.”
Alianna’s voice whined. “Will you talk to me or not? If you won’t. I’ll go find another man… mmm…”
The phone was abruptly hung up.
Faye felt a sharp pain in her heart and shakily checked Instagram.
Sure enough, Alianna had posted a story of Brigham feeding her fruit.
The caption read, “Being pampered feels so good.”
It was full of provocation.
Faye closed her eyes and turned off her phone.

Late at night, she was suddenly woken by an urgent phone call.
Stanley’s frantic voice came through. “Faye! Howell was stabbed more than ten times trying to save Alianna, and he’s lost too much blood. They don’t have enough type B blood in the blood bank. Both you and Alianna share a compatible blood type, but she said she just had a kidney transplant and can’t donate blood, so she ran off… Can you come and help.
“Alianna just had a kidney transplant. Her body is weak, so it is normal…”
Hearing this, Stanley was ever so furious. “Alianna is weak, but has Faye been fine all these years? Look at what she’s done for you! She’s ruined herself for you! How can you treat her like this? Aren’t you afraid that once she knows, she’ll leave you forever?”
Brigham’s tone was certain. “She won’t.
“Faye loves me, just like I love Alianna.
“She will never leave me.”
Faye stood outside the room, hearing Brigham’s assured words.
“She will never leave me.”
Her heart felt like it had been ground by a blunt knife, the pain almost suffocating her.
So this was what it meant to be pampered. He never feared losing her.
But Brigham, you were wrong.
“I don’t love you anymore,” thought Faye.
“This time. I will leave
you forever!” she made up her mind.
