Chapter 19
Yvonne flared up when Felicia stood up to her. After all, Felicia didn’t usually do that. “Felicia, is this how the Pruitt family raised you? Talking to me like that?”
Yvonne only treated Felicia like this because she believed that Felicia wouldn’t survive without Seymour.
Felicia had always been following her son around since she was little. The two families had arranged their engagement when the two kids were still little but Yvonne never liked Felicia.
It was only out of respect for her friend, Edwina, that Yvonne agreed.
Who would have thought that Felicia turned out to be nothing more than an adopted daughter?
Since then, Yvonne had found everything about Felicia irritating.
She had once hinted to her son that perhaps they should divorce, and he could remarry.
However, Seymour refused. Yvonne had to let it go.
Felicia flashed a sarcastic smile. “Yvonne, how do you raise your son then? Do you think it’s proper for a man to take photos with another woman when his wife is still in the hospital?”
“Hey!” Yvonne was enraged but couldn’t retort.
“Felicia, you did give birth to a daughter, but it didn’t mean that you can act like this!” Yvonne snapped.
Chapter 19
As the word “daughter” was mentioned, Mina, who seemed to sense the tension, let out a little whine.
Felicia turned away from Yvonne and gently walked to her daughter. “Mina, sweetie, don’t be scared. Mommy’s just fighting a monster. Everything’s okay.”
Yvonne frowned. “Who’s the monster you’re talking about?”
Before she could react, the head doctor and the director entered the room.
The director eyed Felicia. “Ms. Pruitt, this is Dr. Brown, our dean. He specifically came to check on you.”
Felicia was a little surprised. “Hello, Dr. Brown. I’m feeling much better.”
Dr. Brown smiled. “That’s good to hear. Prof. Galvan was here the other day, otherwise I wouldn’t have known you were his…”
Before he could finish, Felicia interrupted, “Dr. Brown, yes, Prof. Galvan is a good person.”
Dr. Brown understood, so he did not continue. “Well, Ms. Pruitt, take care of yourself. If you have any concerns, talk to the director, Dr. White. He’s quite knowledgeable about postpartum recovery. I’ll leave you to rest now.”
Felicia understood they only showed their kindness for Prof. Galvan’s sake. She smiled and saw Dr. Brown out.
Outside the room, Dr. Brown lowered his voice. “Ms. Pruitt, our oncology department is organizing some medical seminars, and we’d like to invite Prof. Galvan to participate. Could you perhaps say a few good words on our behalf?”

“Sorry, my professor hates these kinds of seminars. He probably finds. them troublesome,” Felicia replied.
Dr. Brown was usually cold and reserved, yet at this moment, he only looked at Felicia with a big smile. “It’s okay. If Ms. Pruitt could come, it would be our honor.”
Felicia gave a half–hearted response, not really interested in pursuing the conversation further.
Back in the room, she was met with a questioning glance from Yvonne. “How does the dean know you?”
Felicia’s water broke all of a sudden while Ambi fell ill. They never used their connections in the hospital yet.
Even Yvonne didn’t know Dr. Brown. How could a full–time housewife like Felicia know him?
Seeing Felicia in silence, Yvonne went on asking, “What were you and the dean talking about outside?”
“Nothing,” Felicia replied.
She glanced at the clock. “Yvonne, if you have nothing else, you can go back.”
She had already eaten breakfast, and Mina was being taken care of. Being alone was actually more comfortable for her.
Yvonne was taken aback.
“Sey’s coming. I’ll wait for him to take you home,” Yvonne said irritably.
Ah, finally, Seymour was willing to show up.
Yvonne expected Felicia to be happy like she always had been, but not this time. To her disappointment, Felicia didn’t smile at all.

Seymour entered the room, as distant and cold as ever. He was holding a bottle of milk in his hand.
He glanced at Felicia. “Mom left in a hurry this morning, and she forgot to bring the milk.”
But when his gaze fell on the untouched meal box on the table, he furrowed his brow.
“Again?”
Felicia curled her lips slightly. “I already ate.”
“Then what’s this?” he asked, pointing at the meal.
“I didn’t eat the meal you brought,” she replied.
Seymour was taken aback. Could childbirth really change her personality so much?
These past few days, Felicia had been acting like a completely different person from before.
In the past, no matter how late he came home, Felicia was always patient.
But now, she looked more than cold and indifferent.
Seymour’s face darkened for a moment, but he didn’t vent his anger. After all, she had just given birth. “What did the doctor say? If you can leave today, we can pack up and go home.”
Felicia sneered inwardly. He always acted the same way.
C–section or not, no one left the hospital that quickly.

Especially when this was her second time…
If only he had spent ten minutes learning about what a C–section involved, he wouldn’t have asked such a question.
But no, he wasn’t asking the doctor. He was trying to get an answer from her.
Felicia’s heart sank again.
Taking a deep breath, she said, “I’m not fully recovered yet. You and Yvonne may leave now.”
As soon as Seymour came, Yvonne looked more cheered up. “Felicia, you’re being unreasonable. Ambi didn’t have any appetite these days and even got sick. Go home with us if you still see yourself as his mother!”
Felicia didn’t even look at Yvonne. Instead, she locked eyes with Seymour.
“Seymour, is the Lucero family really so poor that you can’t even afford a chef and nanny?
“I didn’t know that in addition to being Mrs. Lucero, I’m also the home chef,” she added sarcastically.
Seymour didn’t like her biting words. “Felicia, Ambi is used to the food you make. He doesn’t like the food the chef makes.”
Felicia smirked. “If he’s hungry, he’ll eat. Just don’t feed him things he shouldn’t have. It’s actually good to get him used to all kinds of foods.”
Yvonne scolded. “Felicia, how can you say such cruel things? Do you still consider Ambi your son?”
“Yvonne, I’ll say it again. I am not the Lucero family’s nanny. What about
you two? Grandma and Dad, why don’t you cook What about
him?

“Enough, I’m tired,” Felicia said, turning her back. “If every visit to the hospital is just to argue, then please leave.”
Staring at the back of her head, Seymour was trying to read her mind.
He didn’t want to argue with her. He simply stepped over to the cradle.
Mina’s big, bright eyes looked up as she babbled something incomprehensible. Seymour felt his heart soften.
His daughter was a fascinating little creature. He had never felt this way about Ambi when he was little.
“Is your name Mina?” he asked.
Felicia coldly nodded. “Her full name is Minerva Pruitt, but we call her Mina.”
Seymour looked at her, understanding the emphasis she had placed on the
surname.
It was Minerva Pruitt, not Minerva Lucero.
Felicia was determined to have her daughter take her surname.
Without saying anything more, Yvonne seized the chance to lecture again.
“Felicia, do you really want your daughter to have your last name?”
“Yes, I do. She will only have my surname,” Felicia said firmly.
The tension in the room grew once more.
Seymour raised an eyebrow, his face still cold. “As you wish. Minerva Pruitt it is.”

He could tell his arrival had caused Felicia to become even more agitated. He turned to the door. “I’ll ask the director when you can be discharged.
“It’s been said online that a good mood is important during confinement. If you don’t want to see us these days, I’ll have Bettie come instead and deliver your meals. She’ll stay to take care of you, while Emma can focus on taking care of Mina.”
“Just have a good rest.”
