Chapter 3
When Lewis entered, Sienna was taking off her earrings in front of the vanity mirror.
The sound of his leather shoes on the floor startled her, and the pearl. earring slipped into the gap of the drawer.
“Why are you spacing out?”
He reached out and pulled her up from the chair. The scent of mint tobacco mixed with unfamiliar perfume rushed into her nose.
Her lower back hit the cold mirror as she watched his eyelashes cast a curly shadow beneath his eyes. “You forgot what day it is today?”
Sienna’s nails dug into her palm.
The photos from the private investigator three days ago were still in her phone’s recently deleted.
Tracy had walked out of the pottery studio wearing an apron, the glaze on her hands identical to the crooked–necked vase in front of her.
“A gift for you.”
Lewis thought she was moved to tears, wiped the shimmer from the corner of her eye with his thumb, and then carried her downstairs.
Sienna stared at his moving Adam’s apple, recalling how at last month’s celebration banquet, he let his business partner touch her thigh.
“I’ll take you somewhere.”

Chapter 3
In the car, when his phone rang again-
Lewis reached for it faster than he’d go in for a kiss, his Adam’s apple brushing against her forehead. His profile suddenly softened as he said in Spanish, “What trouble are you in now?”
His tone carried a gentleness he had never shown her.
Gazing at the convoy in the rearview mirror, Sienna suddenly recalled the day they received their marriage certificate five years ago.
Back then, too, he brought a whole entourage of bodyguards and escorted her straight from the City Hall to the wedding hall.
