Chapter 115
Half an hour earlier, Sarah had tried to get up and make herself some noodles in the kitchen, but the pain in her leg was unbearable. That’s when she called Scarlett for help.
Now, sitting comfortably on the couch, Sarah recounted everything to Scarlett–how Lucy had thrown the boiling water at her during the competition, and how James later barged into the infirmary to question her.
Scarlett was fuming. “Those people are unbelievable! I’ve never liked that Lucy! Even when you were married to James, she treated you like her personal maid. Now that you’re divorced from that loser, she still won’t leave you alone. She’s rotten to the
core!”
“She probably wanted to use this competition to prove she’s better than me,” Sarah replied calmly. “But stealing the test papers? That’s crossing the line. It’s illegal.”
Scarlett scoffed angrily. “Her brain must be missing a few screws! She spends all her time scheming instead of doing anything worthwhile. Honestly, her mother and that jerk James are the reason she turned out this way. And you–you were way too nice to her before!!!
Sarah quickly poured her a glass of water to calm her down. “It’s my fault, my fault.”
“Your fault? No, it’s all James’s fault! How childish can he be, dragging his family into the infirmary to confront you? What kind
of man does that? He’s the definition of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I still can’t believe you ever married him!”
Scarlett realized what she’d said and quickly apologized, “Sorry… I shouldn’t have said that.”
“Don’t apologize,” Sarah said with a bitter laugh. “You’re right. I must’ve been blind to ever fall for him. He’s a hypocritical,
spineless jerk.” Thinking about the scene in the infirmary made her blood boil. She wondered how James’s brain worked–was it
made of mud?
Scarlett burst out laughing, raising her eyebrows mischievously. “But wait–you’re telling me Zachary actually picked you up and
carried you out? And in front of everyone?”
Sarah felt her face flush. She nodded awkwardly. “I wasn’t expecting him to do that.”
“That’s amazing! I bet James was dying of regret Picture it—a man ten times better than him swooping in and carrying you off.
That had to sting!” Scarlett was practically bouncing with excitement
“You find that satisfying?” Sarah asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Of course! Think about it—Zachary Reynolds is the Zachary Reynolds. He’s not someone James could ever compare to.” Scarlett grinned, clearly enjoying the thought of James’s humiliation
Sarah hesitated, feeling a little uneasy. “It just felt…. strange
“What’s so strange? Tell me honestly— do you think Zachary might be pursuing you?” Scarlett asked, narrowing her eyes as she
studied Sarah’s expression.

“Absolutely not! Don’t even think that,” Sarah said, immediately waving her hand in denial.
“Why not? Think about it–Zachary is an incredibly busy man. He’s got more on his plate than most people could handle. And yet, every time you’re in trouble, he shows up. Like today–why would he
tend a university psychology competition just
because he’s the sponsor? He doesn’t need to be there!” Scarlett pointed out, her tone full of certainty.
Now that Scarlett put it that way, Sarah had to admit something did feel off. Scarlett had a point–Zachary always showed up exactly when she needed help. And he’d even gone as far as making her soup and bringing her medicine.
Could Scarlett actually be right?
No, no, Sarah quickly shook her head. That’s impossible. Zachary Reynolds was someone far out of her reach. She’d never dare to
think of it
“Alright, enough about that. I’m starving,” Sarah said dramatically, trying to change the subject.
Scarlett quickly unpacked the bags she brought, laying out food on the coffee table. “Look at this! I got all your favorites, just for
you.”
“You better eat too!” Sarah said, already too drained to argue as she picked up her chopsticks and started devouring the food.
“Slow down! No one’s going to steal it from you,” Scarlett teased, picking up a pastry for herself. She handed Sarah a cup of bubble tea and said casually, “By the way, you refused to let Lucy go. Do you think the Chancers will just accept that?”
