Chapter 126
“Mom! Our family only holds five percent of the school’s shares. The Reynolds family controls forty percent–nearly half. Do you really think the dean would risk offending them for us?” James‘ tone was exasperated.
And there was something he hadn’t mentioned yet: Lucy’s reputation at school was already terrible. She had been using the family name to bully other students for years, targeting anyone she didn’t like. Several promising students had even been forced
to drop out because of her behavior.
The dean had been tactful in his remarks, but the truth was clear. He had only tolerated Lucy’s actions because of the Chancer family’s influence. Now that the Reynolds family had stepped in, there was no way the school would continue shielding her.
“As expected, everyone just bows to power and picks on the weak! What about my poor Lucy? What’s she going to do now?” Mrs.
Chancer wailed, her voice shrill with despair.
James‘ tone turned cold. “Mom, you know better than I do what kind of reputation Lucy has at school. This isn’t just about her- it’s about how you’ve spoiled her for years. She brought this on herself. She has to deal with the consequences. If she doesn’t
learn her lesson now, who knows what kind of trouble she’ll get into next?”
“James! Are you really going to abandon your sister like this?” Mrs. Chancer asked, her disbelief clear.
“Yes. I’m not staying at home for the next few days. If you call me about Lucy again, don’t expect me to pick up.” James ended the
call abruptly and let out a long, weary sigh.
From the competition yesterday to now, he had been running around non–stop trying to clean up the mess. But after hearing the
dean’s blunt assessment of Lucy’s behavior, he knew he had to stop.
If Lucy didn’t change, it wouldn’t just be a problem for her–It would drag the entire Chancer family down. This incident had
already strained their relationship with the Reynolds family, and the dean was clearly upset with them as well.
This couldn’t go on.
With his decision made, James went straight to the police station to tell Lucy.
“I spoke to a lawyer. Even if you’re charged, you won’t face more than twenty days in detention. You’ve lived a pampered life, and
that’s exactly why you think you can get away with anything. Take this time to reflect and change.”
He had confirmed that stealing the competition’s test materials wasn’t a criminal offense. Throwing hot water at Sarah hadn’t
caused serious injury, so it wouldn’t escalate to a criminal case either. At most, Lucy would be held accountable for breaking the
rules, not committing a crime.
Lucy’s eyes widened in shock. She slammed her hands on the table and stood up. “James! You’re really just going to leave me
here? I’m your sister! What about Mom? Did she agree to this?”
“I already spoke to Mom. Whether she agrees or not is irrelevant. You need to think carefully about what you’ve done. If you can’t
even admit your mistakes, don’t bother coming back to the Chancer family. I won’t let you keep disgracing us.” James‘ voice was

“You think I’m a disgrace? James! I’m your sister! How can you say that to me? It’s all Sarah’s fault! That b**** set me up! If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be in this mess! Instead of blaming her, you’re turning on me? I’m going to tell Mom!” Lucy’s face
was red with rage, her eyes wild.
She had been sitting in the detention cell, anxiously waiting for news, only to hear that her brother had decided not to help her.
James‘ expression darkened. “The dean already told me enough about what you’ve been doing at school. Is that what we sent you there for? Lucy, I don’t care about your grades, but I do care about the Chancer family’s reputation. Do you have any idea how
much damage you’ve caused?”
Lucy glared at him, her fury barely contained, but James didn’t flinch. “You’re staying here. Reflect on your actions. Maybe next time, you’ll think twice before dragging our name through the mud.”
