Chapter 137
Sarah was speechless. With a mocking smile, she replied, “If he loves you so much, why are you wasting time talking to me?”
Charlotte opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say anything, a Porsche Cayenne pulled up by the curb. Zachary stepped out, his eyes immediately finding Sarah.
Ignoring Charlotte, Sarah walked toward him. “Mr. Reynolds, what brings you here?”
“Let’s talk in the car,” Zachary said, holding the passenger door open for her.
Sarah hesitated briefly before getting in.
Charlotte, her eyes red with frustration, called out, “Mr. Reynolds! Did you know that Miss Sanders has been constantly in
contact with James?”
Zachary paused, turning to look at Charlotte. “From what I’ve seen, it’s James who’s been pestering her. In fact, I’d call it
harassment.”
With that, he got into the car without another word.
shook her head as she buckled her seatbelt. “Those two really are two sides of the same coin.”
Mit James who called you here?” Zachary asked as he started the car.
arah nodded. “He said Grandpa wasn’t feeling well and wanted to see me, so I came.”
“He’s up to something,” Zachary said, his tone icy.
“Who knows what’s going through his head?” Sarah replied with a shrug.
“What if what he wants is you?” Zachary’s gaze darkened.
Sarah looked incredulous. “With how obsessed he is with Charlotte? I doubt it. But yes, his behavior lately has been strange–and
it’s extremely annoying.”
Changing the subject, she asked, “By the way, why did you want to see me?”
“Mia’s been crying and keeps asking for you,” Zachary said.
“What? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Sarah’s voice was full of concern.
Back at the apartment, Mia was lying on the bed, wrapped tightly in a blanket despite the summer heat. Sarah walked over and slid her hand under the blanket, feeling the warmth radiating from Mia’s body.
She quickly opened the windows. “Mia, I’m here,” she called softly.
At the sound of her voice, Mia shot out from under the blanket and clung tightly to Sarah’s arm. “Sarah! You’re finally here!”

Her eyes were puffy from crying, and she nestled against Sarah like a frightened child.
“Don’t be scared. There’s no danger,” Sarah reassured her gently.
“I know, but I just needed to see you,” Mia said, her wide eyes filled with anxiety.
Sarah frowned, sensing something deeper at play. This wasn’t just dependency–it was fear. Fear for her.
Leading Mia to the living room, Sarah sat her down and exchanged a worried glance with Zachary.
“Mia,” Sarah said softly, “are you worried someone might hurt me?”
Mia’s eyes darted nervously to the burn mark on Sarah’s leg. Her voice trembled as she whispered, “There are bad people out there. They’ll hurt you.”
“There are no bad people, Mia,” Sarah said, covering the scar on her leg with her hand. “See? I’m fine.”
“Really?” Mia’s voice was hesitant as she nodded slowly, though the worry in her eyes didn’t entirely disappear.
Her current state had improved, but her mind was still trapped in a place of perceived danger.
“Can I go to school with you?” Mia asked suddenly, looking at Zachary with hopeful eyes.
Zachary glanced at Sarah, unsure. Given Mia’s current condition, school didn’t seem like the best idea, but her dependency on
Sarah made it difficult to refuse.
“How about this, Mia,” Sarah said seriously, “you can go to school, but you have to promise to focus on your classes. Then, after
school, you can come find me.”
This compromise would help Mia reintroduce herself to normalcy and break free from her fearful mindset.
“Okay,” Mia said, nodding earnestly.
Seeing how determined she was, Zachary didn’t object further. He turned to Sarah with an apologetic smile. “She’s too attached
to you.”
Sarah smiled back. “It’s fine. As her counselor, it’s my responsibility to see this through.”
