Chapter 145
Hearing this, Zachary visibly relaxed, putting his phone back in his pocket. “She probably thinks there’s something between us
and wanted to cause trouble.”
“She really has too much free time, can’t stand seeing me close to anyone, Whenever I get close to someone, she assumes I have
–
ulterior motives. Don’t worry about it she’s got it wrong.” Sarah lowered her eyes, her lashes fluttering.
She kept walking, but Zachary suddenly moved closer, asking, “Is she wrong?”
His warm breath brushed against her forehead, making her face flush red. “Yes, she’s wrong!”
She avoided looking at him and walked faster.
Zachary watched her flustered retreat with amusement.
He’d misunderstood that photo, letting emotions cloud his judgment.
A simple analysis would have shown that Sarah would never get close to James – she despised him completely.
He chuckled softly and caught up with her.
The garden was full of mosquitoes, and Sarah was already covered in bites after just a short while.
“Let’s head back. Don’t you need to go to the family house?” Sarah asked quietly.
Zachary noticed the mosquito bites on her legs and nodded. “Yes, let’s go back.”
At the car, Zachary got in while Sarah waved goodbye.
The headlights flashed twice as Sarah turned to enter the building. Her phone immediately rang – it was Zachary.
“What is it?”
“The bracelet – don’t you like it?”
Sarah stared at her bare wrist, remembering she’d put it away. “No, I love it. I just forgot to wear it today.”
“You don’t have to wear it if you don’t like it,” Zachary said gently.
“I do like it.” Sarah stepped into the elevator.
Her cheeks stayed flushed all the way home. Opening the drawer, she saw the Cartier bracelet she’d put away and put it back on.
Compared to the past few days, today she felt especially shy.
Perhaps knowing that Zachary had acted strange because of that photo made her heart race uncontrollably. She must be crazy to
feel this way.

She touched her burning cheeks.
The cedar scent surrounded her just like Zachary’s.
Wait – she forgot to return his jacket!
She ran to the window with it, but his car was already gone.
Looking up at the stars, she smiled and returned to her room.
–
Life returned to normal, with one difference whenever Zachary came to pick up Mia, he’d bring dessert.
Lucy was furious seeing Sarah unaffected and decided to teach her another lesson.
“Did you hear? The Reynolds sent out invitations for Zachary’s birthday!”
“What? I didn’t know my idol was having a birthday party!”
“Yes! I wonder who got invitations this year. Too bad our family isn’t important enough.”

Lucy overheard their gossip with delight. Zachary’s birthday! Their family would surely be invited!
But when she asked her mother at home, the answer was no.
“How is that possible?! We’re the Chancers! Even if we’re not as prestigious as the Reynolds, we’re still one of the most important
families on the East Coast. How could we not get an invitation?” Lucy was stunned.
Her mother scoffed bitterly, “It must be that witch’s doing! We got invitations to their last event, but not this time. Who else
would be against us like this? That little tramp must have whispered something in Zachary’s ear.”
