Chapter 8
The drive back to the Blue Star Pack was quiet.
Darius didn’t press me with questions. He simply drove, giving me space.
It wasn’t until we arrived at the pack’s territory–a familiar land I hadn’t seen in years–that I finally spoke.
“I’m sorry.” I murmured.
He glanced at me, his golden eyes filled with warmth. “For what?”
“For everything. For choosing Kieran over you. For not seeing the truth sooner.”
Darius exhaled softly and pulled the car to a stop.
“Lyanna,” he said, turning to face me fully, “you don’t owe me an apology.”
“But-”
“I always knew.” he interrupted gently, “that one day, you’d see Kieran for who he truly was. And when that day came, I wanted you to know you had somewhere to go.”
I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“You waited for me,” I whispered
“I did,” he admitted. “Because I love you.”

My heart clenched.
I wasn’t ready for this.
I wanted to say something–anything–but my words failed me.
Sensing my hesitation, Darius gave me a small, reassuring smile.
“You don’t have to answer now,” he said. “Just know that you’re safe here. You always will be.”
I nodded, gratitude swelling in my chest.
That night, for the first time in years, I slept soundly.
