Chapter 14
Lucas‘ POV
“Luke, I’m so happy that you agreed to see me again!” Josephine wrapped her arms around my arm.
She was wearing a pale purple nightgown.
It looked familiar. I remembered Leah was wearing it when I met her for the first time at our engagement party. I wasn’t sure. But one thing I was sure of was that Josephine must be wearing it the wrong way –
The cleavage wouldn’t be that deep if Leah was wearing it.
I’m getting paranoid these days. This isn’t healthy. When I look around, the only thing I see is Leah.
In the past few weeks, I’ve been trying so hard to get in touch with Leah, but I failed.
It seemed that she was determined to cut me off her life.
I had no intention of showing up at the Derby. I had better things to do than watching filthy rich people compare their horses.
In my opinion, horses are stupid. They can run way faster than human beings, but they end up being enslaved by them.
And it’s not like human beings are cute or kind to them or anything. They treat horses like shit, but horses still refuse to run away from them. Instead, they let human beings ride them.
But the Lycan King had sent me an invitation, which was something that I couldn’t decline.
I was sure that he wanted to openly humiliate me in front of everyone.
And I couldn’t blame him.
I married his daughter and treated her like shit.
Women aren’t horses. They run away when you treat them like shit. They definitely won’t let you ride them anymore.
“What? You don’t like me in this dress?” Josephine looked at me while batting her eyelashes at me.
“No. You look good in this dress.” I said and walked away.
I still couldn’t get over the fact that Josephine was lying to me.
She pretended to be sick and she forced Leah to give her blood.
That’s so twisted by any standard.
I couldn’t believe this was the woman I had wanted to marry ever since I was a little boy.
But on second thought, she was Basil’s younger sister.
Basil entrusted her to me before he died for me.
And this kind of event does require a gentleman to bring a Plus One.
And I had no other woman in my life to be my Plus One.
I couldn’t bring my mother. I double–checked with Jorah.
So that was the only reason Josephine was walking next to me.
As we entered the Grand Hall outside the Royal Racetrack, everyone’s
attention was on us.
The Chairman of the Derby Committee, Alpha Kyle of the Moonhowlers Pack, walked toward me and greeted us by shooting out a string of questions, “Alpha Lucas, welcome to our event. How are you doing? How’s your father doing? Who’s this lovely lady standing next to you?”
“This is my Plus One,” I replied.
“I’m his fiancee,” Josephine replied at the same time.
I felt so embarrassed by Jospehine’s reply.
Alpha Kyle looked even more embarrassed. He tried to resolve his awkwardness by looking around as if he was looking for a straw of hope to walk away from us.
Then, there were some sparks in his eyes. He excused himself and strode toward the entrance of the Grand Hall.
I looked back and traced Alpha Kyle.
The Grand Hall was hushed as a handsome Alpha strode confidently into the room. His broad shoulders held back with an air of authority. Hist determined eyes scanned the crowd, taking in each person with a glance that seemed to size them up in an instant. His thick brown hair was perfectly styled, and his deep blue eyes seemed to sparkle in the light.
While every woman in this room was looking at the man, I couldn’t take my eyes off the woman walking beside him. A stunning beauty with long. wavy hair that flowed behind her like a river of silk. Her dark brown. tresses were perfectly styled, framing her delicate features and accentuating her natural beauty. As they walked, the woman seemed to glide across the floor, her every move graceful and effortless.

I couldn’t recognize her at first glance, but when she nodded and smiled. I immediately realized that she was the woman that I had married for five years in my life.
“Leah Lewyn! I can’t believe it’s her! What’s she doing here? There’s only been a month since she was rejected, and now she’s dating someone else? Talking about changing husbands seamlessly in her life,” Josephine smacked her lips.
Has Leah already found another man?! Has she already moved on? How could she do something like this to me? I’ve been trying to get in touch with her for the whole month! And now she’s in another man’s arms?! Is she doing this intentionally, trying to provoke me? She must be showing off. This must be a bluff. She’s just trying to humiliate me.
Feeling jealous and boiling with rage. I didn’t even bother to say anything to Josephine.
All my attention was on Leah. She looked like a completely new person. She looked so magnetic and inscrutable.
Feeling the instinct to approach her, I stopped.
Soldiers followed closely behind Leah and the man. Their eyes scanned the room for any potential threat. Their presence added to the air of tension, a reminder that despite their beauty and charm, they were also rich and powerful. As they made their way through the hall, Leah and the man seemed to be in a world of their own, the rest of the room fading away into insignificance. They were a force to be reckoned with, and anyone who crossed them would do so at their peril.
I heard some maids discussing on the side in a low voice. I strained my ears and listened.
“Who’s that glorious man?”
“Don’t you know him? He is the eldest son of the Lycan King, Lucian, the secret Prince of all werewolves. He’s a man of low profile. That’s why at lot of people don’t recognize him.”
“Wow, I guess now he’s no longer a secret.”
“My Moon Goddess! Our King has kept him secret for a reason. Look at those arms. Look at those eyes. My knees buckled even by looking at him.”
“It’s not fair he looks like that and still has got to be a prince!”
Ah. I sighed silently in relief. He’s Leah’s elder brother. Great. I know. Leah wouldn’t get over me that quickly. She’s still mine.
At that time, Leah saw me in the crowd.
At the moment our eyes met, I realized one thing –
I could never, ever let this woman go in my life.
