I took Mark to the hospital. Incredibly, Derek
was on the sofa with a wedding dress,
waiting for me. He smiled, walking towards
- me.
“I was impulsive today. I apologize. This
dress, I picked it out. We can take Alex for a
family photo, right here.” He pointed to the
center of the living room. He seemed serious,
like I’d be his wife again. But it was Sarah’s
dress. He was giving me her rejects. He saw
<
me as a peasant he could use as a spare.
I didn’t call him out. “When?”
Seeing my calm expression, he thought I was
pleased.
“Tomorrow.” The day before my flight.
I smiled. It was the last memory with my son
and him. We’d never see each other again.
