Chapter 154
“You dance wonderfully too, Mr. Reynolds.”

“How’s Mia?”
“She wasn’t feeling well earlier, so I took her upstairs. I planned to bring her back down for the gala, but she fell asleep, so I came
down alone.” Then she’d encountered that situation.
Zachary’s face showed concern. “I thought Mia had gotten over her fears.”
“She had been stable, but today there were too many people. She got overwhelmed,” Sarah knew Mia was especially sensitive
now.
Zachary looked at the top of her head, his thick eyelashes fluttering. “I really love the gift.”
He was also delighted to see the bracelet he’d given her on her wrist.
“You’ve already said that.”
“But I wanted to say it again.”
When their dance ended and they stepped off the floor hand in hand, those women were still glaring at her as if she’d stolen
someone’s husband.
She smiled wryly. When someone had stolen her own husband, no one had looked at that person this way. Instead, they’d thought
she was the ungrateful one.
In the face of money and power, what was right didn’t matter.
After the dance, she spotted Mia coming downstairs.
“Mia, I’m over here,” she waved.
Mia obediently walked to her side as Steven wheeled out the cake – a massive twelve–tier birthday cake taller than she was
The lights dimmed after a three–second countdown, leaving only the flickering warm glow of the candles on the cake.
As everyone sang “Happy Birthday,” Zachary gestured for her to come closer.
In the darkness, no one noticed her movement. She wondered how he’d managed to find her in the dark, as if time had stood still
in that moment.
She walked slowly toward him, gradually seeing her reflection in his eyes.
As she reached his side, the birthday song ended. He gave Sarah a tender look before blowing out the candles.
William Reynolds stood nearby. Zachary gave him the first piece of cake, then offered the second to Sarah.

She accepted it bashfully and passed it to Mia before taking the third piece.
With everyone holding cake, Zachary spoke briefly with his grandfather before walking over. “I’m very happy.”
“I can tell.”
Zachary reached toward her face, and Sarah instinctively pulled back.
“There’s something there.”
Zachary wiped some frosting from her cheek. “Is it good?”
“Yes, the taste is familiar,” she’d noticed it with the first bite.
“It’s from your favorite bakery.”
Sarah froze, never expecting someone would care so much about her preferences.
She’d mentioned desserts to James for three years, but he’d never paid attention. After the divorce, he’d brought her a piece in
passing, but she’d refused it
Yet Zachary had remembered after hearing it just once. Though she was curious, “I remember saying I didn’t like it anymore, that
my taste had changed.”
Zachary chuckled softly, “It depends on who brings it.”
Sarah felt warmth spread through her chest. “Aren’t you worried about what you said earlier getting around?”
“What did I say?”
“When Miss Kourtney mentioned the rumors about you liking me, you said they were true.
Zachary suddenly leaned closer. “So you did know I liked you.”
She froze, quickly turning away. “I… I didn’t know.”
“Well, now you do.”
Her face turned bright red, and she quickly took a bite of cake to hide her embarrassment.
Zachary liked her, and he’d admitted it himself.
But
how could he
e have fallen for her?
