She was his sister of course he didn’t want her in trouble.
On the highway, a black Maybach shot forward like lightning, ignoring speed limits and radar zones. The driver floored the
accelerator, struggling to keep control of the steering wheel.
But Lucy felt they weren’t moving fast enough. She’d booked a flight leaving in thirty minutes. If she could just make it in time,
she’d be safe in Milan.
Just as the airport came into view, a police motorcycle appeared beside them, sirens blaring. “Pull over! Stop the car!”
“Don’t stop!” Lucy screamed. The driver, following orders, pressed the accelerator harder. The car lurched forward.
Before she could catch her breath, police motorcycles emerged from both sides, patrol cars following behind. Sirens echoed
across the highway.
Lucy’s heart pounded as she stared fearfully out the window.
The driver was panicking. “What should we do, Miss?”
“What do you mean? Keep going! Faster!” Her eyes were wild, all reason gone.
The police motorcycles moved in front of the Maybach, trying to force it to stop.
“Pull over now, pull over…”
As a patrol car closed in, the driver lost his nerve. “Miss, I can’t go any faster!”
Lucy pounded the seat in frustration, watching helplessly as they were surrounded. Deflated, she whispered, “Stop.”
The Maybach pulled over slowly. Police cars surrounded them. “Get out!”
Lucy’s eyes reddened as she slowly placed her hand on the door handle and opened it.
She knew that stepping out meant everything was over.
At City Hospital, Sarah lay with an IV drip as Zachary entered after a phone call. “They’ve caught Lucy. She must have spotted us at the university they caught her heading to the airport.”
Sarah laughed coldly. Typical Lucy, always running away. She glanced at her IV bag, nearly empty. “My fever’s gone. Let’s check out.”
“No.” Zachary frowned, remembering yesterday when her fever had returned after visiting the abandoned building-
“I’m really better.” Sarah insisted on leaving.
Zachary’s face hardened. “Fine, then I’m staying at your place.”
“That’s not necessary… we’re not…‘
“Scared? After all the rumors about us, isn’t it a
‘t it a bit late for that?” Zachary raised an eyebrow.

After the IV finished, Sarah insisted on leaving. Despite wearing Zachary’s coat, she felt cold outside her apartment building.
The wind whipped around her as she pulled the coat tighter, looking back at him.
He sat in his car, watching her tenderly through the dim headlights, backlit.
The window lowered as she asked, “Aren’t you coming up?”
She felt oddly hopeful, her cheeks warm.
Zachary chuckled softly as he got out. “Can’t bear to part with me?”
Sarah turned away in embarrassment. “Do what you want.”
As she walked, she cringed at her behavior.
Being sick had made her oddly sentimental, acting like a lovesick teenager with Zachary
This wasn’t like her at all!
