Chapter 182
Sarah escaped to her bedroom, catching her flushed reflection in the mirror. Steven’s words kept repeating in her mind. Zachary,
interested in her?
No way.
She knew he cared, but Steven made it sound like Zachary had been secretly in love with her for ages. That was just… Heading
back to the dining room, she found Mia half–asleep at the table, while Steven and Scarlett were sprawled out, wine–drunk. But where was Zachary?
The whir of a blender drew her attention to the kitchen. She found him mixing something at the counter. As she got closer, she recognized the distinctive smell – he was making more of that immune–boosting smoothie her doctor had recommended.
Right on cue, he turned around with a glass. “Still feeling rough? Drink this. I noticed your vitamin supplements are untouched.
You need the boost.”
She eyed the greenish liquid, wanting to cry even as she took tiny sips. Her stuffy nose made the healthy concoction taste even
worse.
When she finally finished, Zachary averted his eyes.
Sarah helped Scarlett to the guest room

she was completely out of it.
In the kitchen, Zachary and Mia were loading the dishwasher. She tried to help, but Zachary waved her away.
“You should rest.” He took the plate from her hands.
“I’m fine,” she insisted, grabbing another dish and heading to the sink. This time he let her help.
After cleaning up, Zachary guided a stumbling Steven to his car, while Mia slid into the passenger seat.
Sarah walked them to the entrance. “Drive carefully.”
Zachary turned to her suddenly. “Remember to take your medicine.”
“I will.” Her pulse quickened.
He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead before driving away.
Sarah stood frozen.
He’d kissed her.
Cheeks burning, she hurried back inside.
When Charlotte returned to the Chancer mansion, she found Mrs. Chancer in tears. “What’s wrong?”
“Charlotte, thank goodness you’re back. They’ve arrested Lucy!”

“What? Who has?”
“The police! That woman caused this!” Mrs. Chancer fumed.
Charlotte kept her thoughts to herself – Lucy must have crossed a line again.
But she played along. “Have you told James? He’ll know what to do.”
“He won’t pick up his phone!” Mrs. Chancer wrung her hands.
“Let me try calling him.” Charlotte couldn’t reach James but his assistant confirmed he was home.
“His assistant says he’s here.”
The front door opened and James strode in, his expression stormy.
Mrs. Chancer rushed to him. “Have you seen your sister?”
“No,” James replied icily.
“You have to help her! The last arrest traumatized her. She can’t handle prison!”
