Chapter 7 A Poker Game
“What’s wrong with me?”
Inside the room, Lindsey sat calmly on the sofa. She wore a casual jacket, lookingperfectly composed.
The two men sitting across from herwere also fully clothed, too, each holding a hand of cards. They were not doing anything unspeakable. They were only playing a game,
The scene was so far from what everyone had expected. Lindseysmiled faintly. hereyes sweeping across the room beforefinallysettling on Jaelyn.
“Why don’t you tell me? What exactly is wrong with me?”
Jaelyn flinched under that gaze.
Since when did thebumpkin have such power in her eyes?
She was no longerthe one who used to be terrified of getting kicked out of the Oconnells. She didn’t even talk much because she was afraid of saying the wrong thing.Evendownstairs, she stilllookedtimid and submissiv How did she suddenly turn into a different person?
And the two men she brought… Why were they sitting here with Lindseyin peace?
They were even playing cards together!
Jaelyn stared at the scene in front of her, still unable to believeit.
But the truth was right there for everyone to see. There was nothing shameful going on behind thescreen, and the poker cards in Lindsey’s hands were like a loud slap across her face.
As Jaelyn stood there at a loss, Cassiepushed through the crowd and cried out. “Oh dear, Lindsey! What have you done to the dressing room? And why are you playing cards in here? Even if you didn’t want to attend. Jaelyn’s birthday party, you didn’t have to bring these people here to cause trouble!”
Jaelyn quickly followed Cassie’s lead. She hurried to put on apitiful tone. “I’m sorry, Lindsey. I was just too anxious. You were taking too long to change. When everyone came in just now, the room was a mess, and the sounds we heard… Also, you still haven’t divorced Eliezer yet…”
With just a few words, the mother and daughterhad successfully shifted everyone’s attention back onto Lindsey, making it seem like she had been improper.
So what if there wasn’t any hard evidence?
It shouldn’t have taken that long to simply get changed. Besides, she was indeed seen with other men in a room. Maybe she had done it already?
Seeing the people start to buy her theory, Jaelyn seemed to panic as if trying to defend Lindsey. “Lindsey, I didn’t mean it like that, really! You just stayed upstairs for so long. I was worried about you…”
The murmurs grew louder. Jaelyn, flustered, grabbed Eliezer’s arm. “Eliezer, it must be because you brought the wrong dress and made Lindsey angry, so she wouldn’t come downstairs. Please go talk to her! I’m sure it’s not what everyone thinks!”
Eliezer calmly pulled his arm back, his sharp eyes locked on Lindsey.
His lips were pressed into a tight line. Though he said nothing, his grim expression made his thoughts all too clear.
Despite the tension in the room. Lindsey remained relaxed and composed.

Lindsey looked so composed and she spoke so directly. People started to side with her.
Maybe they really were just playing cards?
This time, Jaelyn was genuinely flustered. “Lindsey! That’s not what I meant. I don’t understand what you’re saying…I was just worried because you were upstairs for so long, and I thought something might have happened.”
“Worried about me…”
Lindsey nodded andthen her tone suddenly turned sharp. “Then let me ask youabout it. What exactly did you wantwhen you used the excuse of changing clothes to lock me in a room that already had these meninside?!”
