Chapter 21 With Him Again?
The pr
group of reporters exchanged glances and immediately put on flattering smiles.
“Since Mr. Walter has said that, we’d better leave now.”
Everyone quickly dispersed, not daring to stay behind or sneak any photos.
Who was Zayden Walter?
No one dared to offend him.
Once the reporters were gone, the air turned deathly still and cold.
Looking at Lailah in Maxwell’s arms, Zayden looked gloomy. His eyes darkened.
He simply said two words.
“Get down.”
Already uncomfortable being carried by a strange man, Lailah didn’t want Maxwell Davidson to get dragged into her scandal either.
She lowered her voice and said, “Put me down.”
Unfazed by Zayden’s stormy expression, Maxwell replied, “No. Your ankle is sprained. You need to get to the hospital.”
Zayden’s gaze remained fixed on Lailah’s face, his deep eyes like icy blades.
Word by word, he said, “Lailah, I told you to get down.”
Zayden didn’t really show his emotions. Lailah rarely saw any emotions on his face.
But now, his eyes were clouded with anger. He was staring at the two of them like they were something utterly repulsive.
Seeing she didn’t move, Zayden’s eyes grew even more menacing.
He slowly stepped forward and approached them.
Reaching out, Zayden tried to pull Lailah down.
Maxwell raised his arm to block him, but holding Lailah made it hard for him to do that. He couldn’t stop Zayden.
Zayden yanked Lailah out of Maxwell’s arms.
He grabbed her wrist tightly and turned to leave.
As her feet touched the ground, the pain in Lailah’s already sprained ankle became unbearable.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her other hand.
Zayden stopped and looked at Maxwell, his voice low and filled with disgust.
“Let go of her.”
Maxwell smiled nonchalantly. “That should be my line, right?”
Zayden’s brows lifted arrogantly. “You think you have the right?”
Maxwell chuckled. “Whether I do or not isn’t up to you. What matters is… how Lili feels.”
He turned his gaze to Lailah.
“Lili, do you want to go with him?”
Lailah knew Maxwell was calling her that on purpose, to provoke Zayden.
Her eyes flicked to Tamara, who was standing not far away. Zayden and Tamara had also come out of this restaurant,
They must’ve just finished dinner, and Zayden had probably shared the news of her being locked up.
Lailah’s expression cooled. She didn’t look at Zayden but turned toward Maxwell instead.
“My ankle’s sprained. Mr. Davidson, could you please take me to the hospital?”
Maxwell’s smile deepened. “Sure, anything.”
Zayden’s eyes were filled with disbelief. He said coldly, “Lailah, don’t tell me you’ve gotten involved with this man again.”
Lailah frowned uncomfortably.
“Mr. Walter, how interesting. First, I haven’t made headlines with Mr. Davidson. Second, there’s nothing improper between us. It was just a meal, and Mr. Davidson gave me a hand when I was in trouble… And in your mind, that means I’m involved with another man?”
She glanced at Tamara with an indifferent expression.
“So, in your eyes, just speaking to a man means I’m having an affair? Are you projecting your own mindset onto others?”
Maxwell raised a brow, amused.
“Mr. Walter, when Lili was surrounded by reporters just now, you didn’t show up in time to rescue her… and now you want to steal the credit?”

Zayden’s gaze darkened, but he didn’t say anything.
Tamara stepped in for him. “Zayden just arrived not long ago. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to help Ms. Griffith out…”
Maxwell curved his lips into a faint smile. “When the reporters went to interview Ms. Mosley, Mr. Walter reprimanded them. But when those same reporters smeared Lili and spread rumors, Mr. Walter didn’t say a single word to defend his own wife.”
Tamara frowned, clearly displeased. “Ms. Griffith admitted some of the stories herself. They weren’t rumors. If you don’t believe it, you can ask Ms. Griffith directly.”
Maxwell completely ignored Tamara and instead looked straight at Zayden.
“Mr. Walter, is that what you think as well?”
Zayden’s gaze was dark and unreadable, yet his eyes fell on Lailah.
“Are you coming down or not?”
Clearly, Maxwell’s words were in vain.
She said indifferently, “Mr. Davidson, take me to the hospital first.”
Maxwell chuckled lightly. “At your service, Lili.”
Carrying Lailah in his arms, Maxwell walked past Zayden.

At the hospital, the doctor examined Lailah’s foot.
It turned out to be just some superficial injuries. No bones were broken.
Chapter 21 With Him Again?
While Maxwell stepped out to take a call, Lailah leaned against the chair and gradually dozed off.
She dreamed of many strange things.
Tamara’s malicious grin or the scene where Zayden and Krish Walter pushed her into the abyss… things like those.
Lailah jolted awake with a shudder.
She was gasping for air, a thin layer of cold sweat on her forehead.
“Had a nightmare?” A low voice came from the side, along with a few clean tissues handed her way.
Lailah accepted them and instinctively murmured, “Thanks.”
“Thank you.”
Wiping the sweat from her forehead, Lailah turned her head. She then froze at the sight of a tall and familiar figure.
She paused. She blinked and then frowned.
“What are you doing here?”
Zayden let out a short, mocking laugh at her cold face.
“What’s wrong? Disappointed because it’s not the person you wanted to see?”
Lailah replied coolly, “Not seeing the one I hoped for doesn’t matter. But seeing someone I absolutely didn’t want to bothers me a lot.”
Zayden looked at her and suddenly said, “If you’re willing to apologize, I’ll make a public statement and clarify that this was all just a misunderstanding.”
Apologize?
Lailah almost laughed out loud.
“I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize?”
Zayden hadn’t expected her to remain so stubborn after all this time, and his tone turned instantly cold.
“Lailah, even now, you still don’t think you did anything wrong?”
Lailah’s fists clenched instinctively, her knuckles turning pale from the pressure.
She was already on the brink of breaking down because of all the online backlash, yet Zayden was still waiting for her to admit fault.
Absolutely ridiculous.
She said icily, “The biggest mistake of my life was marrying you.”
Zayden’s face darkened. “Lailah, that’s enough.”
Lailah sneered. “Yeah, I’ve had enough. You can choose to blind yourself or Tamara, but I won’t be the fool who keeps swallowing it all in silence.”
Zayden’s eyes grew even darker. “You always wanted too much.”
