I’d be their maid, managing their lives?
I glanced at them. “I wish you a happy
marriage!”
“And I’m not coming back to the Holt’s
house.”
“Lastly, here’s my resignation letter!”
Serenity’s eyes lit up when I showed them the
paper.
Me staying at Star Corp was a major threat. She wanted me gone!
Before Ethan could explode, Serenity said,
“Don’t be hasty! Star Corp needs you! You
own a big chunk of the company. If you leave,
our stock will drop!”
“But if you’re going to leave, can you leave
your company shares? It has your blood,
sweat, and tears. Wouldn’t you want the
company to be successful? You wouldn’t
want Ethan to be hurt!”
Ethan glared. “If you want to leave, I won’t
く
stop you. I don’t think the company can’t
survive without you!”
“But you have to leave your shares like
Serenity said. I won’t negotiate!”
Chapter 2
- 5.
I wasn’t planning on taking those shares with
me anyway.
I’d already drawn up the transfer agreement
last night. I was going to give them to Ethan,
no strings attached.
I didn’t want to see Star Corp crumble
because of me.
But things had changed.
I said to Ethan, “I’m willing to hand over the
shares. What are you offering to pay?”
Serenity jumped in, “Hailey, are you really
going to be like this? You’re talking about
money? What about family? Ethan? Don’t you
want to help?”
L
Before she could finish her sentence, I
snapped, “Shut your damn mouth. Who the
hell do you think you’re talking to?”
Serenity’s face twisted. She shot me a look
filled with hate, then switched to her “poor
me” routine.
Ethan, his face like thunder, said, “Hailey, are
you really going to be this heartless?”
“What if I don’t buy your shares? What will
you do?”
I shrugged. “There are plenty of people on the board who’d kill to get their hands on my
shares. If I let them know they’re available,
they’d be lining up to make an offer, and
willing to overpay”
I wasn’t bluffing.
As Star Corp’s second–largest shareholder, I
could name my price.
If someone managed to snag all my shares,
they could challenge Ethan’s control of the
<
company.
Ethan clenched his jaw so hard I thought his
teeth would shatter. “Star Corp is our
families‘ legacy. If you screw it up, my
parents and your parents will be watching and they won’t like it”
I cut him off, my voice like ice. “Don’t bring our parents into this, Ethan. This is business, not a therapy session. Don’t cry over spilt milk, and don’t bring feelings into business.” “I’m only going to ask you one more time. Are you buying my shares or not?”
Ethan nodded, his eyes blazing, “Fine. Give me three days to get the money!”
With that, I grabbed my stuff and left.
Three days later, Ethan had the cash. I heard he sold everything he owned, even mortgaged
the house and his ride.
I signed the transfer agreement, and Ethan
snatched it, his face filled with hate. “You’re
