“No matter what they say, everyone in business knows how good you are. My dad’s been trying to hire you for years. He says you can have any job at his company if you’d just
<
come work for him!”
I just smiled and listened to Willow. She was
right. Everyone I’d worked with knew what I
could do.
After they found out I’d left Star Corp, my phone exploded. Top–tier executives, business moguls, everyone wanted me to
work for them.
I turned them all down. I needed to travel and
clear my head. Work could wait.
Willow didn’t need a job. She was an only
child who spent her time traveling. She knew
every tourist trap and hidden gem around the
world.
I asked her to come with me so I could have a free tour guide.
We went everywhere, saw the most amazing things.
The beauty of nature made me feel tiny.
All my problems just melted away.
く
All my problems just melted away.
Willow spent the last few days glued to her
phone, watching the news back home. She
kept giving me this weird smile, but she
wouldn’t tell me what was going on. She
didn’t want to ruin my trip.
I didn’t push it. I just enjoyed my freedom.
Three months flew by. When our plane landed
back home, there was a crowd waiting for us.
It was like a rock concert.
Were they all there for me?
I was so confused.
Willow smiled. “Remember when you said you
wanted to start your own company? Be your
own boss?”
“I accidentally let that slip. And all those
business sharks came swimming!”
I looked at the people waiting for us. I
recognized a lot of them. They were mostly
business partners I’d worked with before.

I said to Willow, “Aren’t those people all
connected to Star Corp?”
Willow grinned. “Most of them worked with Star Corp because of you. Only idiots think you got where you are because of Star Corp!” “I just spread the word a little bit. Then they all came running so they could come with you to the top.”
I sighed. “Are you hiding something from me?”
I knew how Willow worked.
When she spread the word about my new
company, she probably made things tough for
Star Corp.
Willow shrugged. “I just made a small
request!”
