Chapter 3
I woke up and saw my mother’s anxious face.
I touched my flat belly as if the small life that once existed was never there.
Memories hit me suddenly.
In my previous life, my daughter was born weak and spent a long time in an incubator.
The doctors even issued code blue at one point.
I used all my resources to bring in doctors from abroad and stayed awake, guarding the hospital door.
The only time Caden visited the hospital, he frowned and said, “Maybe we should just let it go. Both the adults and the child will suffer.”
Ironically, I thought he genuinely cared about me at the time.
Well, since I wasn’t loved, it was better to stop enduring the pain.
“I heard the doctor say…
My mother hesitated, worried about upsetting me while I was still so fragile.
“Mom, I’m fine now,” I said, gently holding her hand. “Let’s end the engagement with the Parrish family.”
I stayed in the hospital for a few days, and Caden didn’t even show up

once. My mother, of course, figured everything out.
She said angrily, “How dare they treat you like this? The Parrish family won’t last in Los Angeles after this!”
She pulled out her phone.
“All the projects we gave to their family will be retendered!”
After hanging up, my mother looked at me sadly.
“My sweet daughter, I’ll never set you up with such an unreliable marriage again. From now on, you’re free to do whatever you want!”
The day I was discharged from the hospital, Caden was waiting at the
entrance.
Leaning against the car, his striking face was dark with anger.
“Luna, you really have some nerve. You made a mistake, then have the audacity to have your family retender all your projects.
“Do you really think that without your family, without you, I can’t make it?”
A middle–aged woman with flawless makeup stepped out of the car. As soon as she saw me, she scolded Caden, giving his shoulder a light smack.
“Luna, don’t listen to this brat. He’s just sulking. Let me apologize on his behalf,” she said, walking up to me with a smile and taking my hand.
“We’ll be family soon, so let’s not be so formal. From now on, whether it’s the Wilson family or the Parrish family, they’ll both belong to you

and Caden!”
My mother stepped in front of me protectively.
“Mrs. Parrish, I don’t think this is necessary. My Luna isn’t worthy of your son!
“He never came to the hospital to visit Luna, but now that we took back the project, you’re all rushing here!
“My poor daughter-”
“Mom, there’s no need to argue with them.”
I interrupted just as my mother was about to mention my miscarriage.
Caden’s expression grew even darker. Ignoring my mother, he taunted, “Alright, Luna. If you don’t want the chance I’m giving you, then don’t come begging me later!”
Mia panicked, but Caden forcefully dragged her into the car.
My mother was furious, struggling to catch her breath.
“I can’t believe I was so blind!”
I quickly tried to soothe her.
Caden had always been so full of himself, thinking that our family only wanted to invest in him because of his abilities.
Now, it was time for him–someone who had never truly experienced the ruthless world of business–to face the harshness of reality!
