Chapter 4
I switched on the TV, and Caden’s face appeared on the screen.
The flash of cameras never stopped.
“Mr. Parrish, is Ms. Johnson your new spokesperson?
“I heard she’s just an unpopular internet celebrity, yet the Parrish Group is promoting her so aggressively. Is there a reason behind this?”
Since the last time he left the hospital in a huff, Caden had been attending events everywhere, flaunting his relationship with Cheryl.
He smiled at the cameras.
“Cheryl may be new to the industry, but I hope everyone will focus on her hard work and potential.
“She’s worked her way up step by step, unlike those born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
A hint of mockery flashed in his eyes.
I knew who he was subtly referring to.
As soon as the TV segment ended, Caden’s childhood friend updated their social media.
“Caden and Cheryl are a perfect couple! He finally got rid of the clingy ex!”
After the engagement with our family, my parents poured all their
resources into supporting him.
Seeing the Parrish family rising, his childhood friends came over and praised him.
My phone suddenly rang–it was the property management.
“Ms. Wilson, a social media influencer wants to use your place for a photoshoot. She has a keycard…”
My parents had bought a large apartment in the city center as a marital house, and I gave Caden a keycard for it.
“Get her out of there.”
Before I finished speaking, I heard a scream on the other end of the line, “This is my boyfriend’s house! Who do you think you are to stop. me from entering?
“Just you wait!”
It wasn’t long before Caden called me, and questioned me, “Cheryl wants to use our place for an ad shoot, and you had the property management stop her? What’s your problem? Tell them to leave right now, or I’ll lose my temper!”
I was so angry I almost laughed.
“That is my house. What does it have to do with you?
“The property management is right to keep people like her out!
“If y
you don’t get her out, I’ll call the police!”
Without waiting for Caden’s answer, I hung up the phone.

I immediately put the house on the market with the real estate agent.
Homes in our neighborhood rarely go on sale, so mine quickly sold for a high price.
A few days after the sale, the real estate agent reached out to me, saying someone had bought the apartment next door.
He didn’t dare ask too many questions.
“I heard the buyer’s last name is Parrish…
I knew the place next door well–it was a haunted house. The accident happened after I sold my house.
The selling price was only a third of what I got for my place.
But even so, it was still something Caden could only afford by selling several smaller properties.
Cheryl immediately started showing off in her livestream, giving a full view of the river scenery outside.
“This is the riverside mansion my boyfriend bought, everyone’s welcome to visit!”
But the comment section exploded.
“This looks a lot like that house from the other day that had the incident!”
“Yeah, I saw it on the news, the owner stabbed his wife to death! That’s so scary!”
Cheryl’s face turned pale, and she quickly ended the livestream in a

panic.
On the day I went to the office to resign, Caden stopped me in the break room.
I had joined his company under a false identity, starting at the bottom just to be close to him.
He didn’t show me any mercy–dumped all the dirtiest, toughest tasks
on me.
“I heard from HR you’re quitting?”
I set down the files and replied coldly without looking up, “Just want a change of environment.”
He’d never seen me like this before. His voice carried a hint of anger. “Luna, are you not done yet?
“I went to our marital house to find you, and a stranger opened the door. You sold it and didn’t even bother to tell me?”
I glanced up, replying calmly, “Didn’t you say you were sick of me? I’m staying out of your way–shouldn’t you be happy?”
He sneered.
“I didn’t say anything when you pulled out of all the projects. And now you’re quitting without saying anything?
“Did you forget how you used to follow me around like a lost dog? What game are you playing now?
“I’m telling you, Luna–playing hard to get doesn’t work on me!”

I ignored him, took my belongings, and walked out.
But a slip of paper fell to the floor.
Caden bent down to pick it up.
Suddenly, his face turned pale, and his voice shook. “Luna… a–are you pregnant?”
95.21%.
