He frowned, turned to Nancy, and said something. She glanced over and came through the crowd.
Yvonne hugged Nancy gently, handed over the gift, and smiled. “Happy birthday.”
Nancy had waited all night for Yvonne and invited her to eat cake, but Yvonne shook her head.
“There are too many people and it’s noisy. You go enjoy yourself. I’ll wait for you in your room. I need to talk to you later.”
Worried Yvonne might feel uncomfortable seeing Colin, Nancy agreed right away.
Yvonne avoided the crowd and went up to Nancy’s room on the third floor with ease.
She sat on the couch. After a while, she started to feel sleepy and closed her eyes to rest.

Sienna’s expression was cold, and her voice sharp.
“I thought you gave up. Why are you still showing up in front of Colin? He only cares about me. No matter what you do, you won’t win. He’ll never choose you!”
Yvonne hadn’t expected Sienna to say that and froze for a moment before replying calmly, “I only came to drop off a gift for Nancy. I’ll be gone soon.”

Yvonne usually didn’t let Sienna’s nasty words bother her. But the moment Sienna dragged Nancy into it, her expression turned cold.
“Does Colin know you talk like this about his beloved sister behind his back?”
Sienna sneered. “Colin will always love me. Who cares if I insult his sister? You and Nancy are nothing but shameless. I’m just telling the truth. You’re mad because I hit a nerve, aren’t you?”
“You left Colin seven years ago and vanished overseas. He was shattered. Nancy, who truly loves her brother, never blamed you once. But now you’re trying to go back to him while trash–talking her in secret. Who’s the most shameless here?”
Sienna hadn’t expected Yvonne to fight back with words. Furious, she slapped Yvonne.

Sienna held her stinging cheek, tears of rage in her eyes, then charged at Yvonne.
Yvonne grabbed Sienna’s hair, and they struggled hard.
In the chaos, a scented candle on the table tipped over.
Flames spread to the bed sheets, then the carpet. The fire grew fast.
Thick smoke filled the room. Before they realized it, the place was ablaze.
Yvonne tried to get the door open, but Sienna shoved her toward the flames.
The heat scorched her skin, making her shiver from the pain.
Yvonne tried to smother the fire on herself when the bedroom door burst open.
Colin ran in. He was just a few steps away from her, but his eyes barely glanced at her.

He rushed past and went straight to Sienna, wrapping her in his arms.
Smoke surrounded everything. Yvonne could hardly breathe.
She reached out with her burned hands and grabbed Colin’s leg.
He looked down for a second, then yanked his leg away and walked off without a word.
As his figure disappeared into the smoke, Yvonne blacked out.
