Chapter 10
As soon as Josie landed, she saw a butler–like figure waiting outside. After confirming her identity with the photo, she walked over without hesitation.
“Ms. Hacitt, the butler recognized her.”
Josie nodded, “I am the person you are supposed to pick up. Take me to see Eric.”
Although the butler was surprised, he still led her into the car.
In the villa in France, Eric looked at the newcomer, not surprised. After asking about Josie’s preferences, he instructed the servant to make a cup of floral tea.
Josie looked at Eric sitting in the wheelchair and couldn’t help but wonder. This person seemed very gentle and not as cold–hearted as rumored.
He wore a mask that obscured his appearance, but even if he was disfigured, after what happened to Adam, she understood that looks were insignificant compared to character.
Seeing her staring at him. Eric thought she wanted to ask about his wheelchair, so he explained preemptively.
“Just had a little incident recently, but my leg is fine.”
“Ah… okay, Josie realized he had misunderstood and quickly waved her hands. “That’s not what I meant…“”
This person seemed to come with an instruction manual.
Eric didn’t care either. He went straight to the point and asked her, “Are you sure you want to marry Sally?”
Josie nodded.
“We all knew, in fact, that this marriage was just a transaction, Josie said, even though she couldn’t see his expression, she could still feel his scrutinizing gaze behind the mask. “So I won’t make things difficult for you.”
“If there really comes a day… I would break off the engagement and also give you a reward.”
Josie fell silent, she knew what Eric meant by those words.
“Of course, it all depends on what you mean.”
“If you regret. I can also…”
“I have no regrets.”
“I am willing to marry you. Josie answered seriously.”
Eric paused for a moment, he didn’t continue speaking and just nodded, replying with a simple “okay“.
The phone vibrated for a moment, it was a spam message. Josie pressed delete.
She had been in France for a week and hadn’t received a single message from Adam. She knew what that meant.
She threw away everything in the house that was related to herself, and
left a note for him. As long as Adam saw the note, he would not be able to not contact her, but he didn’t.
This can only mean that Adam did not go home at all this week, but stayed in the hospital taking care of Jessica.
Adam, do you really like Jessica that much?
It doesn’t matter anymore. Josie thought to herself with a bitter smile, it doesn’t matter, anyway she and Adam will never have anything to do with each other again.
When Eric came over, he happened to see Josie sitting by the window, looking down at her phone, as if pondering something.
He knocked on the door, and the person inside looked up, overlapping with the little figure in his memory.
“I had someone help you design a few wedding dresses, see if you like. any of them, Eric paused. “I also looked at the one you brought over and had the designer make some changes, take a look and see how it
is.‘
Josie didn’t care about the details of the wedding, but Eric insisted on making sure everything was done properly.
“This is also a major event in your life, no matter what, it should be taken seriously, Eric explained.”
“On the day of the wedding, will you still be wearing this mask? Josie asked thoughtfully.”
In fact, Erie spent most of his time at the company. This villa was usually only occupied by Josie and the butler. The frequency of seeing him was extremely low, but every time they met, he always wore a
mask She thought of the day of the wedding, if Eric still wore this mask… A sense of mexplicable absurdity struck Josie, and she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Eric looked at her and guessed what she was thinking. He was about to take off his mask, but Josie stopped him.
“It’s okay, Josie comforted him, “even if you wore a mask that day, it doesn’t matter. Besides, no one dared to gossip about you.
The man of this age was understandably concerned about hist appearance, but Josie was very understanding and did not have a habit of prying into other people’s wounds. So if Eric was unwilling, she would not pry into his privacy.
However. Eric took her hand and removed his own mask.
A flesh–colored sear extended from behind his ear to the position of his
chin.
“You… Josie’s surprise was written all over her face.”
Eric still smiled politely. “There were indeed some things that happened before, but fortunately, they are all in the past now.”
Some of the things Eric said, Josie actually had heard of.
That was when the Acker family had just arrived in France. The grandfather started from scratch, using his credit and offering discounts to establish himself in the local area. However, their local competitors were not happy with their business practices. They conspired with a group of thugs to kidnap Eric, who was still in high school, in order to force the grandfather of the Acker family to leave. the market. However, after obtaining the assurance of leaving the
market, the thugs suddenly changed their minds and poured gasoline into the abandoned garage.
Every time Sally mentioned this, she would sigh heavily. “A perfectly fine person caught on fire, I heard when they were rescued, they were covered in soot, it took three days of continuous rescue efforts to finally get them out of danger.”
“If you were afraid, you could cancel the engagement.”
Josie quickly explained, “I wasn’t scared, I just thought… you know, the rumors going around. I thought your face was completely burned black, so I was shocked earlier not because I was scared of your face.”
“Black charcoal? Eric repeated her words, chuckling lightly. “The rumors are a bit exaggerated.“”
“At that time, the fire was indeed set, Eric saw that Josie wanted to ask something. “it’s just that when they left, they forgot to take the knife with them. I managed to cut the rope and escape through another
route.
Josie was surprised to hear this version of the story, but Eric casually brushed off the thrilling event as if it was nothing.
In fact, Eric’s features were well–proportioned, and even with a scar, it did not affect him. The scar was like a hand, gently cradled on the side. of Eric’s face.
Thinking like this, Josie unconsciously reached out and touched the warm spot, only to be completely awakened, while Eric just looked at her quietly
“In such a dangerous situation and you came out unscathed, it means
that you will have even more good things happen to you in the future. Josie reassured confidently.”
Eric nodded. “Okay. I believe you.”
Josie wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but she thought that this person seemed a little happy.
