Chapter 17
Adam returned home in a daze.
As soon as I walked in. Evelin slapped me.
“Mom? he exclaimed in surprise.”
“Do you still have the face to call me mom? Evelin threw a USB drive at Adam’s face. “Take a look at how that bitch ruined our family!“”
Adam connected the USB drive, which contained an audio file and a
PDF document.
“What is this?”
“What is it? Evelin repeated his words with a cold snort. “Can’t you see for yourself?“”
Jessica stood aside, soothing Evelin.
The noisy music, like recorded in some kind of dance hall.
“…He was so stupid, I had long stopped wanting to be with him…
Josie’s voice.”
Adam was struck by lightning.
“I need money… okay, he won’t know…”
The background noise was too loud. Josie’s voice was intermittent, and Adam had to hold his breath to focus.

“I will give you the information tomorrow.”
The recording ended here.
What information? Adam was still clueless.
Evelin gestured for him to go look at that PDF again.
His hand seemed to lack strength, unable to click the mouse. Jessical kindly helped him to open it.
The person inside was Josie.
It was Josie from college days. That was a face Adam knew all too –” well.
But his actions felt so unfamiliar.
The highball glasses stacked up like a pyramid, and Josie fell into the arms of a stranger…
Too much. Adam didn’t want to look at it anymore, so he just crossed out the entire page.
“It’s impossible, he stood up, not believing that Josie had betrayed. him.”
Evelin hated iron for not becoming steel. “You have seen her character. I warned you long ago that she is only getting close to you because of money. And that recording, the file, I have already intercepted them. Take a look for yourself.”
A stack of documents was lightly placed on his notebook, he opened it and inside was the bidding proposal from the Deantt Group.
“Jessica is still the best. It was Jessica who went to great lengths to find this evidence. This time, Josie must pay the price!”
Evelin was still talking, but Adam had already tuned her out.
He had been with Josie for so long that he knew exactly what kind of person she was, she could never betray herself.
“I will find out.”
“The evidence is all here, what else do you need to investigate? Evelin interrupted him, “Or are you still going to favor that bitch?“”
“Mom! Adam exclaimed.”
“Auntie, let Ade go check, Jessica quickly reassured Evelin, “He knows what to do, right Ade?“”
Adam mumbled a couple of responses and sent a message to his
assistant.
At the hospital.
After being rescued by a top medical team, Johnson’s condition finally stabilized.
It was a stroke, the doctor said.
“The patient’s condition was very critical. It was important to maintain a calm mindset and avoid excessive emotional fluctuations.”
Josie held Eric’s hand, trying to calm his emotions.
Eric was raised by his grandfather, so Josie knew that the Acker family was very important to Eric.
After Johnson woke up, he saw Josie holding Eric’s hand standing by the bed, while his grandson stood there stiflly, like a piece of
unresponsive wood. So he cleared his throat softly to get the attention
of the two.
“Eric, Josie was talking to you, why didn’t you even smile? The old man decided to help his grandson.”
Eric heard the hidden meaning in his grandfather’s words. Before he could say anything. he heard Josie stepping in to help him out.
“Eric was worried about you, Grandpa! Josie said with a smile, “We were just discussing when you would wake up, so we could cook and bring you some food.”
“Good child. Johnson finally smiled, “but grandpa is fine, he can go. home soon.
“How can that be? Eric disagreed. “The situation is so urgent this time, we need to stay in the hospital for further observation.
“I may be old, but I’m not incapable! the old man grumbled, puffing out his beard and glaring. “I know my own body very well. It’s not like I’m starting to dislike your grandfather and telling me not to come home, right?“”
Josie heard that Johnson was joking, so she said, “How could that be, Grandpa? Eric is just worried about your health. Let’s observe for a while first. The doctor said there’s no problem, we’ll come back immediately to take you home.”
Johnson finally agreed, and then gave Erie a glance, “Why does what Josie says sound so comforting?”
Josie saw that everything was fine here and prepared to go back to make some herbal soup for her grandfather. Previously, due to work requirements, she had taken care of a patient who had suffered a stroke for a period of time. During that time, Josie specifically learned how to make herbal soup.
Johnson saw Josie was about to leave, so he quickly asked his grandson to see her off.
In the supermarket, Josic carefully selected bitter gourd and shiitake mushrooms, while Eric watched his serious expression and couldn’t help but ask. “How do you still know how to make medicinal cuisine?”
Josie put the bitter gourd she picked into the basket. “I needed to make money during college, so I worked as a caregiver for a while.”
“There was a grandmother in the hospital who also had a stroke. Her son couldn’t come home from out of town, so he hired me to take care of her. Her son sent me a lot of medicinal food recipes to learn how to make. Maybe I do have some talent in this area, I feel quite useful.”
After some time, the grandmother’s spirits improved a lot. Later, her son came back and took her to his own city for treatment. It is not. known what happened afterwards.
Thinking of that grandmother, Josie still missed her very much. But when she thought of other things from that time, a bitter smile crept onto Josie’s lips.
“What’s wrong? Eric asked with concern, noticing the change in Josie’s
mood.”
“It’s nothing, Josie shook her head, “I just feel like, buying groceries together and going home together is really happy.
