Chapter 14
All of my friends were shocked, their mouths hanging open and brows. furrowed.
One person whispered, “How did Marissa find out? What if she goes back and tells Chet, what are we going to do?”
“He was known for doting on his niece, if he had known about these things, he would definitely have fought you!”
Someone countered his words, “Marissa might also not have told her Uncle Chet.”
In the past two years, I could see that she really loved Jonny. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have just left Jonny secretly like that.
Jonathan’s eyes turned red as he looked at the conversation he had with Marissa earlier.
Unable to hold back any longer, a tear fell onto the screen of the phone.
At that moment, his mind was filled with images of being with her, “I really… have fallen in love with her.”
The group of friends discussed anxiously, while Jonathan sat there like a statue, not moving at all.
The guests present began to get restless again.
Just then, a very beautiful woman appeared and got into an argument
with Jonathan. After that, the security guard covered her mouth and dragged her away.
They sat here for a long time, drinking for those who drank and eating. snacks for those who ate snacks.
However, the protagonist of this banquet had not yet appeared.
Finally, some people stood up impatiently and asked for the reason.
As Jonathan’s friends, they could only stand up to explain for him.
“Sorry everyone, the event was suddenly cancelled today…”
The guests at the venue left one by one, some with displeasure on their faces, while others bid farewell to Jonathan.
Just as everyone was leaving, Jonathan suddenly kicked over the table in front of him.
He stood up, dragged the chair underneath him to the balloons that said “Happy Valentine’s Day“, and forcefully smashed into them.
“Pop! Pop! Pop!” The balloons burst, making a loud noise.
He didn’t stop until the chair in his hand fell apart, then he picked up another chair and continued smashing the decorations in the venue.
Jonathan paused in front of Marissa’s portrait, the madness in his eyes slowly fading away.
Friends saw that he stopped smashing things and walked over, feeling worried.
“Jonny, the plan didn’t work out, there’s no need to be so upset!”
Jonathan threw the chair in his hand and shouted at them, “Who said I was angry?”
“Why smash things if you’re not angry?” someone whispered.
After Jonathan gave him a glare, his gaze settled on the portrait.
Looking at the familiar face that made him feel like he was in darkness, only the portrait in front of him was in a beam of light.
He took out a gift box from his pocket, took out the carefully prepared ring, and shed tears.
Inside the venue, there was nothing whole except for the portraits.
Jonathan stood there straight, with his head hanging low.
He exuded a terrifying aura, and no one dared to approach him.
After getting off the plane, a gust of cold wind blew, and Marissa adjusted her coat.
I hadn’t been back to Houston for a few years, and the winter here was still so cold.
Marissa arrived at the baggage check–in counter, picked up her luggage, and walked towards the departure lounge.
She slowed down her pace, looking at the crowd waiting to pick her up not far away, feeling a faint sense of anticipation in her heart.
Getting closer and closer, a tall figure in the crowd caught her eye.
A simple black windbreaker draped over his body, making him look so handsome.
That man was her Uncle Chet.
He wore a pair of gold–rimmed glasses, looking very stern.
“Uncle Chet!” Marissa waved to him with a smile.
Chet’s smile was gentle as he walked briskly towards the exit.
Marissa laughed and jumped onto him, burying her head in his arms.
“Uncle Chet, didn’t I say I was going to go home by myself and surprise my parents?”
Chet pulled her suitcase with one hand and held her with the other as they walked towards the parking lot.
“I wanted to come pick you up, don’t worry, I didn’t tell our older brother and sister–in–law.”
Marissa’s heart warmed, and she held Chet’s hand even tighter.
Chet loved Marissa, and this was known throughout the entire Shanghai circle.
He was seven years older than her, and it seemed destined from the day she was born that he would always dote on her.
After Chet put Marissa’s suitcase in the trunk, he sat in the driver’s
seat.
Marissa clearly got into the car first, but she didn’t fasten her seatbelt until Chet got in.
He doted on her, “Do you still need Uncle Chet to help you fasten your seatbelt?”
Chapter 14
Marissa playfully nodded and he chuckled helplessly as he leaned over to pull the seatbelt on the right side.
The two of them were very close, Marissa looked at him, and Chet also lowered his head.
