Chapter 5
The news hit him so hard that he almost lost his balance. Liam
stumbled forward, gripping Finn’s hand tightly, his voice shaking with disbelief.
“Grandpa, what are you talking about? Are you joking? Did Melanie complain to you just to trick me into thinking this?
“It’s my fault. I know I shouldn’t have gotten angry with her. Grandpa, please go find Melanie and bring her back–I’ll apologize to her myself!”
Liam’s eyes were wide, his voice trembling with desperation as he pleaded.
Purchase completed
Finn let out a cold snort, deepening the pit in Liam’s stomach.
“There’s no way she’d just walk away,” Liam muttered. “She’s looked forward to this day for so long. She even designed our wedding rings. herself-”
His voice broke. Hands shaking, he reached into his pocket to pull out the ring, but his fingers closed on nothing.
“The ring! Where’s the diamond ring?! I told you to bring it back!” he roared, grabbing his assistant by the collar in a sudden burst of fury.
The assistant flinched in fear, trembling as he stammered, “Mr. Whitaker, don’t you remember? You couldn’t stand to see Ms. Jamison. cry, so you gave her the ring. You said you’d make another one for Ms. Sinclair, but then you got caught up spending all your time at the
psychiatric hospital with Ms. Jamison and kind of forgot.”
Liam’s grip loosened. He staggered back and collapsed into a chair, all the color draining from his face.
Finn slammed his cane on the ground and glared at Liam with disappointment. “Enough! I warned you, you can mess around, but there’s a limit!
“Melanie’s such a good girl, and you were blind enough to throw her away for some unscrupulous nurse from a psychiatric hospital! Now look what you’ve done! She found out everything, and even after I put my pride aside to beg her to stay, she still left you!
“You have to bear the consequences of your own actions. I’m done cleaning up your mess!”
He turned to leave, leaning on a servant for support, but Liam grabbed the hem of his coat.
A look of stunned disbelief appeared on Liam’s face.
“Grandpa, what do you mean she found out? What did she find?”
Enraged, Finn smacked him with his cane.
“What do you think?! She called me, crying her heart out, saying she was leaving and while she was on the phone, you were rolling around in bed with that nurse in the psychiatric hospital!”
The cane struck him hard, the pain sharp and real, but Liam didn’t flinch. Finn’s words echoed in his mind like thunder.
“No way. Where is Melanie? I have to go find her!”

“Go ahead! See if you can even find her now!”
Finn shot him a withering glare, full of bitter disappointment, then turned and entered the car outside without sparing him another glance.
His assistant helped him up from the floor, cautiously advising, “Mr. Whitaker, you should hurry and find Ms. Sinclair. Maybe she just wanted to scare you a little, make you realize how much you care about
her.
“After all, everyone knows she gave up her whole family for you. Where else could she go without you?”
Liam’s heart stirred with hope. He bolted upright and ran toward the parking lot.
Right, Melanie loves him–she’s loved him for over ten years. There’s no way she could let go that easily.
Maybe she’s back at the villa right now, wearing her wedding dress, waiting for him to come to his senses. He just had to beg her properly. He’d make it right. He’d fix everything.
Liam sped through red lights and raced home, bursting through the villa’s door, breathless and frantic.
He searched every room–no sign of her.
At last, he reached the final room. A woman’s light humming drifted through the door.
His heart leaped. That had to be Melanie! With his heart pounding in his chest, he shoved the door open..
Only to find Irene standing there.
“You?! Where’s Melanie?!”
Liam recoiled, his hand tugging at his hair in panic. He took several steps back, ready to bolt.
But Irene rushed over and clutched his sleeve, looking up at him with soft, hopeful eyes.
“Liam, are you not happy to see me? Didn’t you tell someone to tell me you’d broken up with Melanie and wanted me to move in with you?”
What the hell was she talking about?
His gaze swept the room–and landed on the now–empty photo wall.” His eyes widened in shock. He tore through the bedroom like a madman, but no matter where he looked, he couldn’t find a single trace of Melanie. Every photo, every keepsake, every shared memory is all
gone.
“Who said you could step foot into my and Melanie’s room? You really think I wouldn’t do anything to you?”
