Chapter 6
Sophia was unwilling to give up and continued to open his notes. What caught her eye were Arnold’s notes on her little habits.
“Sophia loves spicy food and sweet things and hates all foods with vinegar. She only drinks sugar–free cola and dislikes fattening hot chocolate.”
“Sophia tends to use the silent treatment when arguing, so I need to take the initiative to resolve the issue.”
“Sophia seems cold on the surface but actually cries easily–she’s a cute baby.”

The notes were filled with dense notes all about her. He even recorded
the tiniest details.
Sophia bit her lip tightly, feeling as if two emotions were tearing inside
her.
If Arnold didn’t love her, why did the notes only record her habits? But if he did love her, why did he humiliate her so openly in front of his friends?
She couldn’t figure it out.
The sound of running water in the bathroom suddenly stopped. Sophia suppressed her emotions and quietly put down the phone, returning to
the bedroom.

Not long after she lay down, Arnold also pushed the door open and
came in.
Just as she was about to close her eyes, she saw Arnold holding a chamomile tea and walking up to her. “Sophia, you often get menstrual cramps. Drink this chamomile tea before you sleep, okay?”
His voice was gentle, and the affection in his eyes overlapped with the man he was seven years ago. She took the chamomile tea and sipped it slowly.
The taste of the chamomile tea was the same as before, but the person had changed.

The lights went out, and they lay on the same bed for the first time in a long while.
Arnold turned slightly and pulled her into his arms, his right hand naturally resting on her lower abdomen, gently massaging.
For the past seven years, every time she had cramps, he had cared for her like this.
In the dark, Sophia broke the silence. “Arnold, do you love me?”
“Of course I do,” Arnold replied without hesitation.
“The would you betray me?”
She couldn’t see his expression, but she clearly felt his breath pause.
After a long silence, she finally heard his reply. “Of course not. I would never betray you in this lifetime.”
She wanted to speak again, but Arnold lowered his head and kissed

her lips, then gently patted her back. “Sophia, it’s late. Let’s sleep.”
Bathed in the moonlight through the window, Sophia looked at his sleeping face, her fingertips slowly tightening.
“Arnold, if you betray me, I’ll make you wish you were never born,” she said inwardly.
In the blink of an eye, it was Sophia’s birthday. Arnold had gotten up early to cook breakfast for her. Once she finished eating, he drove her
to the restaurant he had reserved in advance.
As soon as they entered the private room, Arnold’s buddies gathered around her.
“Happy birthday, Sophia! Arnold put in a lot of effort for your birthday. Don’t cry from being touched later.”
“Yeah, yeah! Sophia, remember to reward Arnold well tonight!”
The group of them teased her, and the atmosphere in the room immediately became lively.
At that moment, the room suddenly plunged into darkness, with only a few scattered candles flickering weakly.
Before Sophia could understand what was happening, the door to the private room opened, and Arnold walked in holding a bouquet of flowers. He knelt in front of her on one knee. “Sophia, this is the seventh birthday I’m spending with you. For these seven years, you’ve always been by my side, never leaving me. I’m both touched and content. From now on, I’ll spend every birthday with you.

“Happy birthday, babe. I will love you forever.”
The lights came back on, and Arnold took out the birthday gift he had prepared.
“Sophia, this is a diamond necklace I polished for you. The shape may not be perfect, but this necklace holds all my love for you.”
As soon as he finished speaking, his buddies started to tease them.
“Sophia, this is a diamond necklace Arnold polished for you with his own hands. Are you moved to tears?”
“Sophia, just between us, this necklace is worth over ten million. Look how much Arnold loves you. You should cherish it.”
“Sophia, why not kiss Arnold in front of everyone?”
“Arnold, you’re truly a good boyfriend!”
Seeing the necklace in his hands, Sophia’s expression didn’t change much. By now, Arnold’s sweet words no longer had any effect on her.
“Sophia, let me put it on for you. Okay?”
His gentle question reached her ears, and Sophia was about to refuse, but the teasing and urging from everyone made it impossible for her to decline. Suppressing the complicated emotions in her eyes, she forced herself to agree. “Okay.”
Bang!
The lively atmosphere in the room was interrupted.
“Arnold! Cassandra had a serious car accident on her way here and is

now in the emergency room. You should go and see her!”
As soon as the words were spoken, everyone in the room looked toward Arnold.
With a sharp “clink,” the necklace in his hand fell to the ground, and the diamonds shattered into pieces.
The next second, Arnold hurriedly left the private room.
Sophia soon found herself alone in the room. She stared at the mess on the floor and the untouched cake. A sharp, heart–wrenching pain pierced through her chest.

Once again, he had abandoned her for Cassandra.
