Chapter 8
After our heart–to–heart conversation, all the resentment in my heart completely disappeared.
Looking at Luke’s face, I suddenly noticed he had lost weight.
I had been too impulsive. While faking my death helped me escape from here, it had hurt Luke far too much.
My eyes gradually welled up with tears, and I couldn’t help but throw myself into Luke’s arms.
“Luke, I’m sorry.”
This time, Luke completely broke down.
The commanding CEO who dominated the business world was now sobbing uncontrollably, crying like a child.
“Zoe, I was absolutely terrified. I can’t believe you didn’t trust me…”
He’s twenty–six this Christmas, but watching him cry like this was actually kind of funny.
Yet I still felt heartbroken for him.
After all, ever since we’d known each other, I’d always known he was a crybaby.

What’s more, this time I had misunderstood him and come up with such a cruel scheme that broke his heart.
I straightened up. He instinctively adjusted his position, burying his head in the crook of my neck.
Looking at his red, tear–stained nose, the guilt and heartache in my chest reached their peak.
But suddenly a phrase popped into my mind.
Tears are a man’s best weapon.
After the misunderstanding was cleared up, Luke cried in my arms for a while. I suddenly remembered I didn’t know how things were going with Lena.
So I sent her a message first.
She replied instantly.
Lena: [Zoe, Tyler says he wants to personally take me to meet that mother and daughter. Come with me.]
She followed up with a pleading emoji.
Looks like this was also a misunderstanding.
Zoe: [Okay. When?]

Lena: [Now.]
Lena: [Tyler says he doesn’t want to wait another second. I actually already believe him, but he’s insisting I go.]

Lena: [I feel like it’s going to be awkward. Zoe, hurry over. We’re meeting at the coffee shop downstairs from the Booth Group building!]
Lena: [Please!]

I couldn’t help but laugh, pulling Luke along as we immediately headed to the destination.
When we arrived at the coffee shop, the mother and daughter were already sitting across from Lena and Tyler.
Seeing us arrive, Lena frantically signaled with her eyes for me to hurry over.
This was also my first time seeing this mother and daughter.
The little girl did indeed look somewhat like Tyler.
At the moment, both mother and daughter looked a bit confused and somewhat nervous.
Tyler was the first to break the silence.

“This is my father’s new girlfriend. This child is technically my
half–sister.”
Lena’s eyes widened.
The woman sitting across from them looked to be only about twenty–five, while Tyler’s father was nearly fifty this Christmas.
Hearing Tyler’s words, she suddenly lit up with joy.
“Tyler, you’re willing to acknowledge me?”
After speaking, she shook her daughter.
“Mia, say hello to Tyler! From now on Tyler will give you…”
“I won’t acknowledge you.”
Tyler cut off the woman’s words. Facing outsiders, he still maintained his poker face.
“I had you come here today only to clarify things with my wife.
“I have no relationship with Roy Booth anymore. You chose to have his child, so that has nothing to do with me. I won’t provide you with any financial support,”
The smile on the woman’s face froze, and she awkwardly tried to persuade Tyler.

“Tyler, even if you don’t acknowledge me, Mia is your real sister…”
Tyler directly refused her.
“I told you, we have no relationship whatsoever.

“Don’t come looking for me again. Tell Roy that if he sends anyone else to disturb my life, I’ll make sure he spends the rest of his days in a foreign nursing home.”
The woman fell completely silent. She took the little girl and left the coffee shop directly.
Even Lena, naive as she could be, now understood what was really going on.
She looked at Tyler, her eyes full of remorse.
“So, she’s not at all what I thought…”
Tyler nodded.
“Lena, this was a misunderstanding.”
